Koy Detmer came in to hold. Wasn't he technically ineligible to be in the game since Mike McMahon was the 3rd QB?

Anyone know?

That is the way I understood the rule. I wonder if anyone on Dallas would have caught that?

The rule is once the 4th quarter starts any of the 3 QBs can play

I believe you are correct

wouldnt that had been something had he made it, only to have refs negate it due to that?

I had the exact same thought. I figured the Dallas staff knew, but wasn't gonna say anything unless he made the kick.

Wow, good point. I wonder what would have happened if Akers somehow made the field goal. I'm sure the NFL would have had to of done something about it.

Can you point to it anywhere?

I was grasping for straws on how they could throw a flag or anything.

Yes, if the kick was good, Dallas could have made the officials aware of that and a penalty would have resulted.

Detmer was ineligible to enter the game once the emergency QB was inserted.

Sorry Hos, i can't, i just know the rule, it is in the rule book, if you use your 3rd string QB anytime before the 4th quarter, the 1st 2 can not play, once the 4th quarter starts, you can now use 1 or 2. I am 100% sure on this.

I'm 99% sure that in the 4th quarter, anything goes with regards to the emergency QB (ie taking him in and out of the game).

I hope I can find an answer because I was up on the table at the sports bar screaming at the top of my lungs that Detmer was not eligible.

The emergency (third) quarterback may now enter the game in just the fourth quarter, regardless if the other two quarterbacks are able to play. This means that if the third string quarterback enters the game, the first and/or second quarterback may re-enter, unlike the past two seasons where the emergency quarterback would only play off the first two were unable to resume play.
A receiver knocked out of bounds by a defensive player can now return to the field to make a play.
Quarterbacks may now receive communication from the bench via a small radio transmitter in their helmets. This proposal was originally run on a test basis last year during the pre-season, but was scrapped.

All I know is I was pacing my living room saying, he is going to make it, he is going to make it, no one misses against us. Then when he missed it, the weight of 4 misses in 3 years was lifted from my shoulders ;)

Thanks for that. It bugged me when I saw Detmer enter the game.

I am much more interested in one question:

If - and i say "if" - the Eagles broke a rule with sending their 2nd QB in on that FG. Could they plead guilty before the NFL Comissioner for a illegale procedure in that game and so force a rematch?
