Funny how Carp has almost as many sacks as Lawson but hasn't played nearly as much. :D

If I had known Greg Ellis was going to play OLB I wouldn't have drafted either one.

Manny Lawson may not have been the answer at LOLB, but Carpenter isn't either.

Lawson might end up being too light to be a dominant 3-4 LOLB. There were conflicting reports all over the place during draft time about his weight. Some had him at 250, some at 230. If he could get up to 250 and stay there throughout a season, he'll be a darn good 3-4 LOLB.

Lawson showed very little this season. Maybe next year.

And how many dropped ints did we have yesterday? Does ole' Zimmer ever put these guys in front of the ball machine?

This is part of the problem. Zimmer has put the guys in position to succeed, yet the players are the ones that drop the balls or catch questionable penalties. How different the game would have been if the INT for a TD stays, or Carpenter/Williams hold on to the ball, or Carpenter slows up just a bit on the blitz.

Now, that's not to say that Zimmer is not the problem, but we haven't put enough on the players for coming through when they are put in the right position in the first place.

Hopefully, the loss of Ellis makes Jerry realize how important it is to have 2 outside pass-rushers in the 3-4.

I like that - chances he won't resign with Baltimore?

Unfortunately, thanks to our foolhardy decision to extend Bradie James, we would have to eat a nice cap hit or have a very expensive backup if we were to do this.

Why is it everyone always forgets Coleman? He hasn't gotten nearly the playing time as others but still always manages to get pressure. He had a nice sacks against Detroit on the one of like 3 plays he was in there. Against Indi he was in the backfield every snap he played.

James' contract wasn't that big really. Here are his base numbers:

2007......1500000.00
2008......1750000.00
2009......2623000.00
2010......2950000.00
2011......3500000.00

We've got plenty of room to add a large contract like Thomas's.

I really like that. We need a plan in case Ellis doesn't return to form. I would rather have too many OLB's than be stuck in the position we are now with only Ware making an impact.

When you consider that it is RARE that in this defense we see a blitzer come absolutely free, I'd say things are looking up. He hit that gap in a hurry, a little too wild, but in an ideal world, someone else would have gotten a push by then, and cleaned up his mess.

There's no doubt in my mind Carp can play SOLB (in a 3-4) and play it well.

Carpenter looked solid. I wish he'd stayed in control on that blitz and taken Kitna down, but I'm confident that with a REAL defensive coordinator coaching him next season - hopefully - he'll make that play on a regular basis next season.

If BP is back, then that new DC will probably be...Todd Bowles.

It might be monopoly money to us, but in the real world, Jerry Jones' world, that isn't feasible.

That is a lot of money for a backup for that length of time. It was painful enough to pay a million per year for Al Singleton.

A near pick, a near sack..........good to see him the flow of a game. Now start making those 'nears' into big plays.

Seen Santonio win it for the Squealers yesterday...Mangold holding his own for the Jets...hard to go wrong on those Buckeyes I tell ya.:D (unless your name is Clarett)

One free "get out of jail" card for him. He doesn't count.

His 2007 and 2008 numbers aren't too out of whack for a veteran backup. Al Singleton is making quite a bit more this year than those numbers, and the cap is still going up over the next several years. After the 2008 or 2009 season, when his numbers jump significantly he could be cut without too much of a cap hit.
