I was about it say that. That seems to get buried under the "catch/no catch" debate a lot, but Romo threw a perfect ball right there.
The OP alleges that this play was called by Romo instead of Garrett....is that on the record by anybodies knowledge?

Also crazy to think about how that was one of the last complete games we would ever see from Romo. He started 1 game against the Giants to start the season in 2015, and then got hurt the next game in Philadelphia. IIRC he started against the Dolphins in the middle of the season, but you could tell he was not 100% healthy and himself, and then he got hurt again. Then in 2016 Dak came along and the rest is history.

... Yep something so simple, just catch it come down with it. It would have been first N goal. With over 2mins.of time.
But no he wanted to be a hero.

NO your wrong again. The refs called it complete. The league said it's not a catch. The ref was literally standing right there on the goal line and called it complete and marked the spot.
fine=STILL NOT A CATCH, lol ref called it, league called it, rowdy called it, someone who matters says it's not a catch, it's not a catch game over!

Overrated play within the context of it costing Dallas that game.

It takes every bit of attention away from the real play of the game, which was the Murray fumble on his way to the end zone.

Even if Dez scores a TD there, they still needed to stop Rodgers when all he needed was a FG. If they didn’t stop him after the reversal of that play, why would they have otherwise?

Not showing up for certain home playoff games bothers me a lot more than the Dez thing.

Dez clearly caught the ball. Switched the ball from one side to the other. Took multiple steps, and reached out to extend the ball over the goal line. A clear catch, even by the rules at the time.

Wasn't there a very similar play by GB right before the half that was ruled a catch?

Dez out Dezed himself on that play. He didn't need to be a hero. The best play was to just secure the ball and go down, taking the 1st and goal.

Always wondered how you can make a two foot in sideline or endzone catch and go out of bounds while holding onto the ball and thats a catch with no “football move” and that’s a catch versus an in bounds requires possession and a football move.

I think about this and the 2014 season pretty often. That was as close as we've been to a Super Bowl since the 90s and since we feel robbed of that play, a lot of us feel like we should've gone all the way as we felt the Packers were pretty much the best team we'd face in the playoffs.

Even had his Cowboys scored on that play they would’ve never been able to stop Aaron Rodgers with four minutes left. The Packers would have only needed an FG to win the game. They moved within range of a 49 yard FG and simply kneeled on the ball to end the game. They could have scored a TD if they needed it but they were just trying to run out the clock. Our defense couldn’t stop Rodgers the entire second half. If the Cowboys would have won the game, they wouldn’t have been able to beat Seattle in Seattle with a Super Bowl on the line. Green Bay lost to Seattle the following week.

The Cowboys still had plenty of time to get the ball back and win that game but our defense couldn’t stop them. The Packers ate up the last four minutes of the game. Our defense clearly cost us the game in the second half. We couldn’t stop a one legged Aaron Rodgers who was hobbling around the entire game. We had zero pass rush that day. We had just moved on from DeMarcus Ware prior to that season. The Cowboys only had 28 sacks that season.

That's because like this play, there are rules that govern that situation when it happens. The same "keeping possession of the ball through the ground" requirement applies there as it did here. The going to the ground rule is a subset rule must be followed in the event a regular, upright can't can't be made. Sideline catches have their own sunset rules.
