Once Jerry Buys the Farm, Will Stephen Hire a GM?

I used to think that Stephen didn't have the egomaniacal traits for his father, so he would indeed hire a GM when his time comes up.

But Stephen having his own radio show is a very concerning sign that I may be wrong.

Our last hope is when he does take over, Larry Lacewell and Barry Switzer won't be around to pollute his brain with their cockamaime ideas.

Everyone here is going to die before JJ.

This is my comment. JJ will also probably outlive Stephen. JJ will probably go through another 7 HCs and 5 QBs before he is through. My grandchildren's grandchildren will probably be calling for JJ's head.

Stephen has a show because the Cowboys are very popular and the demand is there.

He didn't just wake up one morning and decide.....well maybe he did how would I know?

realistically, EVERY player and coach currently on this team, and every other team in the league will be out of football before he gives up the GM job....stew on that

This little slice of delusion is in his bio on the team site:

"With 19 years of NFL experience, Stephen Jones has established himself as one of the brightest and most versatile young executives in professional sports."

That sound to anyone like a guy ready to just sit in the box and sign checks?

Jerry likes to talk about Stephen's engineering degree as a qualification for what he does with the Dallas Cowboys. Is it safe to assume that you might have a different view on this than Jerry? :D

The more you listen to his comments the more you can see that the apple doesn't fall that far from the tree and odds are he's going to be every bit the snake oil salesman that his father is.

I hear ya, but he's also part of his pop's posse at the moment. I think after his death, he may force himself to evaluate his father's success or "celebrity" and may make some life changes; ditching the drink and focusing on his own success as a businessman and getting out of the shadow of his father, etc.

Stephen has been in charge of personnel with Lacewell since Switzer days. I posted an article on this awhile back.

Thanks for the reminder, I would doubt he would re-evaluate seeing as this is all he knows professionally albeit the ugly nepotism that it has transpired into.

Not a stupid question although its mere speculation at this point. The Cowboys have been a hot topic all week after pissing away an almost certain win. Red J's job status and Jerry the GM have been a large part of the discussion. Of course Jerry is getting blasted for saying something along the lines of cutting out the middle man if we had a GM so he just makes it all more efficient by acting in that role.

We all know that as long as he is physically capable he will not give up his "GM" role. Not only does he love it, but if he gave it up it would look like an admittance of failure so he could never do that.

Stephen obviously will be next man up once Jerry is planted. Will he hire a true GM? Something I've thought about this week as there has been all kinds of talk about Jerry as a failure in the GM role. I may be wrong here, but Stephen doesnt seem to be even half the man that Jerry is when it comes to energy and being able to juggle so many balls in different roles.

Any thoughts on how things might change once Jerry is a memory? Can we get any kind of read on Stephen?

More of a curiosity question than anything?

I think about this all the time. And Im afraid his son is worse he is gonna be a penny pincher. Which on one hand if he gets a real GM could work if that said GM knows what to do. And is left alone to do it.. But if he doesn't then we are in a couple decades more of mediocrity. Look the real key here is $$$$ They ( Jones family have a Billion $ Franchise and until We as fans wake up and stop buying their crap ( merch ) And let all the fans from visiting teams go to the game and totally embaress them They wont do a thing

Yes. There's literally nothing to suggest that he'll be the least bit different
