Teams beat the daylights out of him in college; his coach didnt do him any favors and ran him to the ground in some games. I beileve he had some 40 carry games, and in addition to this he returned kicks and caught balls out of the backfield. Every week his carries were up there. This is what concerns me about him whether we get him or any other team. I dont know how many seasons hes going to be able to play with the beatings he took in college. I was actually watching I beileve the Alabama game and he was getting the ball on every scenariio. This is just something to think about.

Instead of making another one of the 5 million Mcfadden trade posts Ill throw out some food for thought. Oakland probably can not afford another huge contract with all the big money they threw around the last two seasons in the draft and free agency. Oakland, for money reasons, would like to move down. The 22nd pick would suit them nicely for cap reasons. I really think they would do the 22nd pick and next year's number one for the 4th. I really dont know how they're going to fit another 7 million dollar a year contract to their team. They would have a year to clean up their cap. This is why I havent closed the book on Mcfadden and when your talking Davis and Jones anything is possible. Opinions

They did run him hard, and he is very tough minded.

I am a big DMAC fan because I watched him play at least 10 times and was always impressed with his skill set, toughness, and effort on finishing plays......he is going to be special and make us all SICK for 10 years!

Your facts are off. It might have looked like Darren was carrying the ball on every single play but that's only because he had so much of an impact on every game.

He never got near 40 carries a game and in fact only carried the ball more than 30 times in 5 of his 38 games. Remember, he was sharing the backfield with Felix Jones and Peyton Hillis his entire college career. He was in the low 20's in most games.

Well, that pretty much clears up this debate! :)

This is what I dont like about him. He could hit a wall well before his prime is over.

I don't think his carries in college are going to affect him in the Pros and I doubt he will get that type of load thrown on him in the Pros. The guy is a quality player

I think this may be an issue w/ Kevin Smith, not so much w/ McFadden.

would you like Dallas to take Ray Rice in the draft?

Rampage, comparing Rice to Mcfadden is like comparing apples with oranges. Reason being, with Mcfadden your going to have to give up a king's ransome for him and he will be expected to be the next one. Ray Rice would command a second or third round pick. He wouldnt come in as a franchise player, but moreso, one of the guys to chip in here and there. All Im saying is with his workload its something to consider.

Darren McFadden is only 20 years old.

Just so I'm clear, you're saying you would hesitate to draft him because he might wear down after only 8 Pro Bowl seasons.

Gotcha...

all i'm saying is Rice had 135 more carries than McFadden did comparing college stats. I'm sure rice also took a lot more of a beating in those 920 carries than McFadden did.

McFadden took a crazy beating on his carries. His teammates were always chasing him down in the endzone and smacking his helmet, shaking his shoulder pads, jumping on him. It was brutal.

McFadden averaged 21 carries over 38 games at Arkansas for a total of 785. That is a lot. The only top backs in recent drafts that had a similar workload were DeAngelo Williams and Steven Jackson.

This actually doe not bode well for McFadden, Rice or Smith and pretending like it doesn't matter in a position where the life expectancy is ony a few years is jsut stikcing your head in the sand.

i remember watching Ark play i think it was Auburn and it was a close game and Nutt overworked McFadden so much and he was so banged up that they kept him out down the stretch and they lost.

Now Nutt is an idiot but there is no question that DMac carried a heavy load.

On the flipside he only played 3 years so that is in his favor.

Right.

Oakland can afford to sign pretty much whoever they want - they have about 3.5 mill left in cap space and haven't reworked any deals at this point. They'v got the money.

22 and next year's one? Right. No owner in their right mind would even suggest that deal to Davis because it would be so insulting.

I'm thinking of another college RB whose carries looked like this his final year:

24
40
23
33
49 (!!)
27
41
32
42
33
41
28

Wow. Now THAT is a workload.

That RB is LaDainian Tomlinson. Now the jury is still out on whether or not he'll wear down sooner than most but I don't think anyone in San Diego regrets drafting him.

LT, Jammall Lewis, and Edgerrin James are the only RB picked in the top 10 from 1995-2005 that have not busted.

C Willimas, Cedric Benson, Thomas Jones, Ron Dayne, Ricky Williams, Curtis Enis, and Lawrence Phillips all busted.

Ronnie Brown gets a pass because he finally showed some flashes last year.

You want to go through all the busts' carries in their final season?
