On the last offensive pass prior to the botched FG, had we not downed Hall, would the clock have run out ?

Or could he take a knee and call TO without being downed by a defensive player ?

IF we didnt down him he would of scored.

I was also thinking about kind of holding him up for 2 seconds but thats way risky and asking a lot of Roy to think about doing

I don't think he was going to score, too many Cowboys in the area, but hypothetically, what is the rule on that ?

He would have to be touched down, if not any player who is down would be down you wouldn't ever have to touch them.

I doubt Hall would of had that kind of savvy, but Im very sure you can go down and call a time out under 2 minutes if not any time

They could not call Timeout until the player is down by contact so yes had we not touched him the clock would have ran out, problem is he could have gotten up and scored as well.

No a ball carrier is not down unless contact is made or he goes out of bounds.

Someone could have grabbed him and basically danced with him for two seconds before taking him down.

He wasn't going to score.

am I the only oen that remembers the 49er (?) who stupidly tried to score instead of jsut going down and callling a TO?

Im pretty sure you can go down. QB's do it, Rams WR's do it

Maybe so but I doubt that thought even entered the defense players mind. You have had a few days to think of this the player had a split sec.

Or could the refs could have said his forward progress had stopped and called for the next play by placing the ball...although the time would still be going.

QB can give themselves up. WR can't until contact is made or you go out of bounds. The reason the QB can do it has to do with the rules of protecting the QB. If the ball carrier slides he is still a live runner and if not touched can get right back up and start running.

If one of our guys had the little squirt in his grasp, let him have some forward progress, and then take him down.

But like Dooms said, it all happens so quick.

Something to talk about though, :D

Can someone look this up. I could of sworn under 2 minutes, to set up a FG, you can go down and call a time out

I agree. You would be one heady player to do that in the closing seconds of a ball game.
