One last quick tune up......

It really does depend on where they have the guys ranked.

I think we won last year, we went and got Dez and then went and got Lee, who we had graded as a 1st rounder. Neither one did much to help our terrible year, but they went and got the guys they wanted.

I much prefer that approach to trading down for the sake of trading down.

Time will really tell.

It appeared we won in 08 (I think) when we chose Felix and Jenkins....but that's looking shaky. It appeared when won when we traded back and took Julius Jones.

I think we won the Ware/Spears draft. We had several good players from that draft.

If the Cowboys go OT in round 1, it needs to be a player that can start immediately at RT and also play LT if needed. I want a player that can replace Columbo at RT and Barron at swing tackle. Castanzo meets both of those criteria.

LOL

If you and I both do mocks with Castonzo in the first people are going to wig man.

:D

I almost did not post it because of yours. :laugh2:

I'm still hoping on a trade up for PP then a trade back into the first for an OT particularly Sherrod who can be a swing tackle. I realize that gives up two picks but it fills two maybe even three needs if TNew moves to FS.

As always, have fun ripping me a new one.

C'mon, there's nothing "fun" about doing that... it is, however, our sacred obligation, our raison d'etre, if you will...

He played on an underachieving team with a terrible secondary, that won't help your draft hype.

Exactly right...

At the same time, it didn't take me long to warm up to the idea that he might be a solid free safety in the NFL... as a Horns fan, I've seen him play a lot, but I'd never even thought of that possibility until I read it some weeks back... I think that he has the skillset to make that transition...

Yep. I like Curtis Brown too. That guy has a ton of ability.

At the very least, he should be able to help you out on special teams right away... however, I'm hearing he's a second or third rounder right now, and I don't think that I'd consider him a good value until the fourth round...

Castonzo is fine with me, particularly if we can pick up a second or even a third round pick. I do like Carimi a little more, but that doesn't mean the Cowboys do. I just think his attitude and nasty temperament would go a long way towards helping the OL. Castonzo is more versatile though.

Count me in as one of the guys who loves the idea of trading back into the end of round 1 and coming away with two first rounders this year.

Watkins at Guard would be a great addition to the OL and along with Carimi (or Castonzo) would go a long way towards making the line a dominant, aggressive unit.

I feel exactly the way you do. I haven't written Colombo off yet although I see that as a very real possibility. I think Smith and Sherrod are the two best candidates to be a swing tackle. I think Castanzo fits RT. Carimi too.

I think its imperative to think swing tackle on draft day rather than just RT. Besides defenses are lining up their best pass rushers on the left side of the line as well as over the LT.

Do you think that Colombo could play guard? His main problem is that he can't protect the edge anymore. He still can play if he doesn't have to worry with speed rushers getting around him.

Just a thought. At least his effort would be consistent, unlike L Davis.

Yeah i'd say around the last 13 picks of the 3rd round is where his value starts.

My guess is if Colombo is healthy then there will be competition at RT. If Colombo can't compete with Young, Brewster, or a draft choice it should be evident sooner than later. The problem is there may not be a camp to evaluate who needs to play there. In that case Dallas is stuck in a bad place. If Colombo can't win the RT spot then do you carry him on the roster at the expense of keeping a younger guy? Or do you just cut him and wish him well? I'd hate to be the person who has to make the decision to keep him and count on him at RT if you haven't seen him play since last year.

I don't know about moving him to guard. It would have to be to compete with Davis. My suspicion is Davis will rebound this year and he still has the contract that supports playing him. And I don't think Colombo is even as mobile as Davis is which isn't saying much either. He would further limit Garrett's offense and ability to pull guards and get OL into space.

Colombo's job depends on his health and ability to play, his chance to demonstrate that, who is drafted to play RT, and what they think of Young and Brewster. And I can't answer any of those.
