I have been of the mindset that franchising Shultz was a mistake. As the season has progressed, I am even more of that mindset.

I know he was Dak’s security blanket, but only because Dak can’t read the field that well. I think this was a case of wasted cap space and a younger player could have adequately filled Schultz’ role.

Kind of.. Atleast cowboys didn’t sign him long term.

The roster is loaded as it is. They didn't make a mistake.

Agreed
I would trade him and develop the young guns

Hindsight is 20/20. At the time, we didn't know we were going to get Hendershot and Ferguson and they would be playing decently this early.

Had we let Schultz walk, people be crying over letting him go if Ferguson and Hendershot sucked ballz.

Biggest offseason mistake was not signing Von Miller.

But this mistake is not biting us in keister because DQ has weaponized other players on D with his use of Parsons and having so many variations of his fronts + coverages.

Replacing Amari with 3rd round WR was also foolish.

I thought the franchise tag was a good idea vs signing him to a long term deal. Give him a 3rd season of productivity to show what he's worth. Never thought his productivity would fall off a cliff, but clearly he's more valuable to a QB1 like Dak who trusts him. At this point the franchise tag is working, as the Cowboys made no long term commitment.

Adding Miller to the rotation would have been unreal, but it's worked out fine with the group we have for a fraction of the cost.

In regards to Amari, jettisoning him may not have been wrong, but the value we got remains awful. So remains the worst offseason move.

It all doesn't matter at the moment though because we're 4-1.

3rd or 4th round pick: wer'e getting a comp most likely anyways
Dalton Schultz (TE)
LVE (MLB) or Noah Brown (WR)

for:

Roquan Smith (MLB, Bears) or DJ.Moore (WR, Panthers)

Yes or No to either?
Interested in Smith
We need an upgrade at MLB.

We'd have either the best LB or WR corps in the league for years.

Furthermore , Schultz money and even LVE or Browns paltry salaries go to the majority of signing Smith or Moore. Both are legit #1's at their positions.

I take either and be happy.

We'll see. He hasn't been much of a factor so far, but we certainly couldn't have expected a fourth-round rookie and UDFA to be able to step in (mostly as blockers). He's dinged up right now, so give it some time. The tight ends overall really didn't do much in this one.

They didn't make a mistake. Signing him to a long-term contract would have been the mistake.

They're 20 weeks from being done with his overrated butt.
