...the media.

Remember T.O. Granted, T.O. did bring a lot of the scrutiny on himself..but not nearly as much as the media actually gave him. Right now, beyond the obvious concerns about his mental and physical state I am truly concerned how the local and national (namely ESPN) media is going to react, overreact and/or misconstrue his actions. Can you imagine? He has to be on his absolute best behavior or he and Dallas alike will get destroyed. Him for whatever he does that can be made headline worthy and Dallas for not releasing him for something stupid or trivial.

Thoughts?

I shudder at the thought of the biting commentary that could come from this.

What if the Raiders drafted Dez instead?

Pick Analysis:
The Cowboys halt Dez Bryant's free fall by nabbing him with the 24th selection. Though Bryant has been roundly labeled as a potential character risk, his exceptional talent is undeniable and he gives the Cowboys an all-star caliber pass catcher. With Roy Williams under performing, Bryant could become a key contributor early in his rookie season.

  1. OVERVIEW
  2. ANALYSIS
  3. WATCH
OVERVIEW
Bryant is an extremely talented receiver that has legitimate downfield speed as well as the ability to adjust to off-target throws. He missed the final 10 games of 2009 for lying to an NCAA investigator and his ability to control and handle the off-field issues that could come up have to be in question. He is extremely competitive to the ball when he is the target but sometimes shows a lackadaisical attitude when on the back side of plays or when asked to block. He needs to be more precise on his route running and not round off his breaks on the hard cuts. He could easily be the first receiver taken off the board if he can impress the personnel people in interviews.

STRENGTHS
Bryant has a really impressive combination of size and speed. Possesses the quickness and agility necessary to consistently gain separation as a route runner. Very good ball skills, catches the ball softly away from his body and is outstanding at high-pointing the jumpball and really fights for the football. Runs angry after the catch and is a load to bring down in the open field.
WEAKNESSES
There are some questions surrounding Bryant’s maturity level. Does not always show a high level of effort away from the ball. Was able to get open with pure athleticism in college but needs to run more precise routes at the next level.

He has already made the bed.

There should be no confusion here about his past. He has to handle it.

Should he do anything stupid that is media-worthy he will be cut loose (or should be) and things will die off quick.

Im more concerned with his ability to just make the team at this point, I will be concerned with the media later. Ive been trying to find any recent pics of Rolando but havent found any that could show us what kind of physical shape he is in currently.
Anyone have any they could share?

TO was such a lightning rod, before he ever got here. McClain has made a few headlines, but I don't think he's at near the same level that TO was. If McClain does do something to screw up, it will most likely be on the same scale as when Pac Man was here. There will be some talk and some criticism, but I don't see it being too crazy.

As long as we don't see this in the DMN then he has a chance to turn it around... Just be an asset, know your roll and win.

One small off the field indicator [possibly] is he hired a financial adviser right off the bat.
He has some grounding
Some will say," so what" but that shows me something..

Please. Dez cannot be brought up.

You are right in one respect...Dez has matured and has taken a lead role in the development of all his receivers
as he calls them. Rolando and Dez both had horrible childhoods but if Rolando will listen and get in Dez's crew, he
will get in shape and become the player he should be. He's got to because this is most likely his last chance.

He's flying way under the radar. Media will only notices if he's making plays

Take care of that for me::D

Seriously though, that did seem like a major issue in the past and hope it assists in him stabilizing his life.

Hadn't thought about it but initially I agree; maybe a year or so. But all Cowboys are scrutinized more than other teams.

This is a good post to have before training camp for a variety of reasons. I do think that if McClain is average the first few weeks that the media will die down some. If he's just not up to par, he will be cut and the media will die down. If he is playing lights out (seriously doubt this) the media will be on him and Dallas like white on rice. Essentially, this is a free look at a player that hasn't shown anything at the professional level in my opinion.

The question for me is can he play well enough to get back into football shape, make the roster, get his life under control and then come back next year and really show why he was a first round draft pick. Either way it works out, I wish the young man the best. The more I learn about his past and how he grew up, I marvel at him trying to admit his faults and taking the blame for his mistakes. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
