One thing that almost everybody here seems to agree on

Also, we don't have any quick receiving options, other than Beas. Maybe they feel they're not capable of running slants and drags.

I actually think this is a major problem. Beasley is really the only WR we have who can defeat CBs with pure route running due to speed or quickness. But then he's also limited due to size. If Bryant, Williams and Beasley are your top 3 WRs, Street is essentially useless IMO. There is no need for long strider who's not a burner. The 4th WR needs to be a fast/quick WR who can easily get away from CBs with speed and/or quickness.

Agreed. This offense is stale and only works if our guys win their battles. We don't actually try and design plays to get guys open in the middle of the field. It's been like that for a long time with Garrett.

Really no idea why they don't have short routes for our x and z receivers, namely Dez. Teams blitz us and force the ball to come out fast but we never have an answer for it. Happening for years and seems to be insane stubbornness at this point. Jim Haslett

People here claim that Dez is the best WR or top 2. He should be able to catch a slant.

If that is really the problem, then I would go all in to sign Randle Cobb as a free agent. He is the master of the quick slant.

Trust me...Dez has no problem with a slant. I think Romo has trouble seeing the middle with defenders in his face. When he does throw a slant, its never a really good throw...

Ive been wondering that too, basically every big game dez has had this season was based on him catching a slant and beasting it for 20+ yards. Amazed that us as fans see it, but the coaches dont. Garrett is also the same coach who said "NO" When asked if he was thinking of sitting Romo in the 4th against Philly. So who knows lol

Been saying it for a long time. This offense is not qb friendly.

Or QB is not friendly to that scheme , have seen Romo wait to take a longer shot most of the time when Bease or one TE free underneath, he is not a 3 sec auto release QB

I was watching the Broncos game last night and watched a wide receiver crossing route in which one receiver started blocking for the other one before the ball was even caught. Is this even legal? The reason I mention this is the Broncos and Patriots live off of the crossing/illegal pick/rub off routes. It makes it quite simple for the QB since he knows who should be open based on the routes. That's why you see so many quick passes from them - the guy is wide open because another receiver just screened off his man. The Broncos/Patriots also love to flood a zone and use the middle of the field in zone coverage. Why we don't, I have no idea. I am thinking the others who think we rely on our receivers to win one on one battles are correct. Unfortunately that is our scheme. I also hate the 3rd and short calls when Romo stands there for 5 seconds and gets canned because our routes are way up the field. Just get the 1st down for crying out loud. Garrett needs to tell Romo to quit swinging for the fences.and be more aware of the situation. Dink and dunk is fine - just get the first down. Our situational awareness just sucks on some of the play calls on third and short are way off base. We have the talent, we just need to use it properly. We have the ability to win every game running the ball and throwing quick passes. I know it's not sexy, but winning a Super Bowl trophy with dinks and dunks sure is...

Honest, yes, but it's not like I can hide it. LOL

There are, maybe, two people on this entire board who have worked for an NFL organization or get paid to offer opinions about football. GMs aren't trolling CZ for advice. I'm constantly amazed by how seriously some posters take themselves and their opinions.

The problem with the "don't criticize the play calling if you're not a paid professional" is that paid professionals do criticize playing calling every week. I've seen Jimmy Johnson criticize play calling and he has the credentials to do it. Play callers are not beyond reproach just because they get paid by an NFL team.

So why come here? The fun of coming here is to offer opinions on what we think is going on good or bad. I think every one knows Jerry or JG aren't
reading what we post. Just in case though. Hey Jerry if you are reading this, do us all a favor. GO AWAY!:D

If you watch coach's film of other teams, it is so clear how bad our passing game is design wise. That is why most of our big plays happen when the "designed" play breaks down and Romo does his playground act. You rarely see our WR be wide open down the field by design.

It's amazing how wide open Nelson is repeatedly in almost every game.

Call 10-15 slants a game and watch Dez BEAST the defense.

Cole Beasley, too.

Unfortunately that seems to be TR's hardest throw (seems to throw behind quite a bit). That has to have something to do with it because it makes too much sense otherwise to not be staple(esp coinciding with lack of zip/deep ball).

I'm not chastising anyone for offering a criticism. That's fine. That's what this board is for. I am talking about people who view criticism of their opinion as some personal slight.

plus I don't think Romo can make the deep throws this year

I think that his back is worse than we get the info it

can't throw a decent deep ball anymore

anything deep ball comes out like duck

maybe next year

Esp when they get fired every other season for their "lack of" knowledge in the profession...football is complex; it ain't that complex. They have a good racket...swear coaches are eerily similar to politicians in that regard. "Sure, we're wrong half the time, but you would be wrong ALL the time?"

He didn't have problems throwing it to Ogletree in the game against the Giants few years back. Ogletree had his 15minutes of fame because he killed the giants with the slant in that game. So much that Coughlin commented that his defense looked like they never saw a slant pass before.

That's what makes the lack of more short routes even more questionable. Throwing the 20 yard intermediate routes that require a line drive type throw is more difficult than lofting up a long bomb.

Has anyone seen the all 22 yet for eagles game ? And if so, can they confirm there are little to know quick / short routes

Honestly, I wondered why they didn't run even more quick slants when TO was here. Same with Miles. A few times over the years I searched the web to see if there was a post-nfl scouting report of Tony that would discuss whether it just wasn't a strength of his but never found anything of note.
