this game is not fantasy football. I know many you want points. Fantasy football, who really cares. The NFC East is trench warfare. When Philadelphia and Washington are building up their defensive lines with top draft picks, we must counter with building up our offensive line with top draft picks. This division is about winning the battle in the trenches. Howie Roseman drafted Jordan Davis last year. We drafted Tyler Smith. Tit for tat. Our first round pick will be a mean ugly and you will like it.
Trench warfare was rendered near obsolete after WW1 with the modernization of tanks and sophisticated fighter and bomber aircraft. While I do love the idea of adding power and depth to both lines, the last thing I want to do is force a pick on a lesser player if there's a major difference maker at a skill position available.

They need to secure the lines going into the draft. Signing Hankins or another run-stuffer would go a long ways towards doing this. I know Jerral was talking about Steele at swing tackle, but I'm not sure I buy it. I'm sure they would like to bring in somebody to compete at LG, but Smith, Smith, TB, Martin, Steele on paper is strong. They absolutely need depth at interior OL, but depending on Steele's rehab, but I'm not seeing it as a necessity.

Long story short, draft your board.

Now you've done it. He's going to put you on the "those who have forgotten" list for sure

And the last thing we should do is once again ignore the trenches. That is what keeps on making us lose playoff games. Constantly drafting skill position players because we just can't pass them up is what's kept us from becoming a super bowl team. Gotta look at the big pic, not just the short term benefits of yet another high pick wasted on a WR.

We acquired Cooper and spent a 1st on Lamb. That's two 1sts and a 2nd on the position. And why did we lose in the playoffs? Because we can't stop the run. Think, man.

If Pilly and Wash are building up their defensive lines with top draft picks, and we are building up our offensive line with top draft picks, then wouldn't that mean that Philly and Wash are losing out in the trench warfare because they don't have better o-lines? And/or: if we follow their lead and instead choose to build up our d-line with top draft picks instead, then wouldn't we lose out in the trenches because our o-line is lacking? This is a catch-22, because draft picks is a zero-sum game: you have to choose to spend them somewhere, so you do the best you can in FA and the draft, and hope that your picks pan out better than everyone else's, and/or that your coaching, contract management, etc. is superior so that you get more advantages.

Glad to see some cowboy fans understand football.

While most are still wanting to trade for Hopkins and draft a WR with the first pick, you seem to realize games are won in the trenches.

Guard or tackle should be the #1 pick if there is a great one there no doubt about it.

Washington has had an elite dline forever and it hasn't helped them much
So what does that prove? And honestly those guys havent been that good. And then there is the Oline.

And the Cowboys had Lamb, Cooper, Gallup, Shultz 2 years ago and they got further THIS year without Cooper and Gallup at less than 100%.

We've put a huge emphasis on the offensive line for the last decade and have had one of the better units year in and year out. Bringing Hankins back would not be ignoring the trenches. The run defense excelled when he was in. It was not the trenches that lost the Niners game. It was the lack of offensive firepower.

While I agree with much of what you say, I can't blindly advocate picking an inferior player due to their position group. That's how you get the drafts we saw in the late 90's/ early 2000's.

Disagree. If you have to constantly use 1st round picks to gain a good Olineman, it means your Oline coaching absolutely sucks. The 90s Great Wall of Dallas was not made up of a bunch of 1st rounders. Quite the opposite.

The first round pick next month will be an interior OL. Hate at me. Just saying. You want shiny new toys like Bijon Robinson, 180 lb WR's, no. It's in the trenches. You hate it but you eventually come to like it. Travis Frederick. Eat it.
I don't think anyone's going to hate you for an opinion but viewers of your posts may be a little indifferent to the "Eat it" type comments.

Like most on this site, I'd agree that being strong up front is paramount to success, particularly if you don't have a top-tier QB under center. If I were drafting I would hedge toward drafting a lineman provided I'm not reaching or bypassing a player that I simply have rated much higher on my board.

Gotta remember, JJ thinks (shocking!) he's put himself in the position to play the board - not a position of need. I think he tried convey this Sunday or Monday but did a really ****** job of it.

I’m all about building the OL but at some point you have to evaluate having too much draft capital in the OL.

We now have 3 1st rounders on the OL, and Dak is above average at avoiding sacks, so we need to be able to hit on Gs in the mid rounds seeing as other teams do.
