OK, guys, lets go. Lets start with Romo. Say what you want but you can't argue with the numbers. His numbers through 39 starts are better then some of the greats of this game. Favre, Young, Aikman, Staubach, Fouts, Bradshaw, P. Manning and Montana himself. Hes thrown for over 10,300 yards and 78 touchdowns. He has had very strong games. True, he hasn't been as successful in December although he played reasonably well in his 2 playoff games. Can you say he played badly vs. the Giants whose defense beat the mighty Pats offense? Wasn't it Fasano who dropped a TD and Crayton who dropped a first down pass in the game? Romo held his own. He played well vs. the Seahawks too. My thoughts are that we can't be sure he can't play well in December for the rest of his career. Here in NY, the fans thought Manning was a big mistake. Well he ended up winning a SB. There is no way you can be sure hes a choke artist. None at all. A little reminder, the line has to block well for any QB, NO ONE DOES WELL WITHOUT PROTECTION! NO ONE. Favre didn't get protection from the Jets in the last 5 games and he folded. Our line has to protect Romo. This guy has great potential. No question about it. I was astonished of his numbers when I compiled them. Romo will win in December, you wait and see. Apparently some defensive players see greatness in Romo as they put him in the pro bowl twice? Whats that about GMs!?
Some of you yoyos are sitting here saying Roy Williams sucks. In his rookie year he had over 800 yards receiving with Harrington? Remember him? The guy is a 3rd string QB no better.. So with a pro bowler like Romo you are saying he won't get 1,000? You are characters. When Williams finally got a QB, in Kitna, Roy promptly put up 1300+ yards and made a pro bowl. The following year he was on pace for 1,100 yards before he got hurt in game 12. In 08, Williams came in with a primadonna WR. who was the #1 go to guy of the receivers just about every play. And TO failed to get it done. Owen's numbers in December were 61 yards per game. Is that a #1 receiver average? No. Williams will come up big this year. He was an outstanding college receiver at Texas, Amazing how some of you fans who say Williams sux are saying Maclin and Nicks make our division foes better!? Excuse me, have any of those guys put up 1300 and been in a pro bowl like Williams. ? He will do well for us. He put up over 200 yards in a game at Philly in 07. This guy is not a bum. You guys blow him off, baloney. The Cowboys will win 10 to a 11 games with their running backs who'll open up the passing game even more. Felix Jones and Tashard Choice are going to be outstanding this year. Our special teams will make our field position much better. We won't be minus over 300 yards in penalties and we won't be -11 in turnovers. We won't have 5 or 6 starters miss games. Keep your head up guys! We'll be fine. The 12 year thing will be over in 09. "Cowboys fans will dine and Haters will whine in 09" Sounds like a t-shirt saying!

There is a large difference being negative and being a realist.

Negative means nothing the team does suits you.

Being a realist simply means show me.

Does Romo have great stats? In every category but one. And that one supersedes all others.

Super Bowl victories.

Am I down on him for this? Nope.

But of all the people mentioned in the first paragraph, only Dan Fouts didn't win it all. Bring home the ring and some of us realists will forget he is 29 and entering an era of his game the others mentioned would not reach for a number of years.

Roy Williams is a terrific receiver.

But this is a team with their eyes on the play-offs and more.

I think he will stand up to the challenge. But here's the deal.

I do not believe Miles Austin will cause enough furor on the other side to force teams to account for him and be troubled by the starting pair.

Now tell me how Witten is really number 2 and the discussion is over. Because all the denial in the world won't change the defenses keying on Williams and Witten and forcing you to beat them with Austin.

The running game will be fabulous, if we have a passing game. If we don't scare anybody in the air, the running game will see eight man fronts all day.

There is a very large difference between being a homer and being a realistic fan that asks questions coming into a season.

Labeling one as a hater because he asks questions is absurd.

Wouldn't a realist wait and see what Austin brings to the table before assuming the worst? I admit I'm a hardcore Cowboys fan I do understand the question marks that face the team and the challenge they have to overcome them but even you said "show me" I just on the side of the players that they can, if I'm wrong the season will be long if the player show they can raise to the challenge then the season is looking good. I don't mind siding with the Cowboys after all they are my team and the word fan comes from the latin word fanatic

A fan, aficionado, or supporter is someone who has an intense, occasionally overwhelming liking and enthusiasm for a sporting club.

But I'm not blind to the challenge of this team

when Romo shows he can still be a good qb without Owens than i'll start to think positive again.

What sort of fan awards are handed out for being a realist? Can we have some sort of contest where we determine which is the realest fan in the land? A reality show pitching every Cowboys fan who obsesses over December collapses, celebrity girlfriends and silicon Jerry against one another, in a no hold barred faceoff to see who can paint the bleakest picture of the Cowboys upcoming season?

So when you see a guy like Roy Williams the strong safety, and he less than pleases, are you being a realists when you say he needs to move on, or are you being negative?

At what point is seeing players that are not tops at their position, or fail and suggesting maybe they have issues is negative rather than realistic?

I'm as pumped as anyone going into this next season.

I also think there are some serious issues to overcome and not talking about them will not make them go away.

I think they call that the elephant in the livingroom paradigm.

Superb idea. We can have a thread to nominate posters, and another with a poll to vote.

I do think many are realist and for the most part do not get labeled negative nellies. For me the perfect example is Tony Romo. Last year I did indeed say some critical things about him that I felt were and continue to be areas of some concernt.

However, when you look at all Romo has done in a short 2 1/2 years and all you can say is he has not won in December, has not won a playoff game and has not won a Super Bowl...then yeah that person is just being negative.

Again that is just a single example of negativity IMO. It is not just about Romo of course.

There's realism when you can discuss on-field play with some measure of reason. Everyone thinks they're keeping it real, because it's their opinion.

However, the overexaggeration and bashing of a player for anything other than breathing is negative. The evolution of being a member who could have a decent discussion in a thread to being nothing, but a one-trick pony is negative.

There's nothing wrong with having concerns about any player. There's nothing wrong with thinking that a player isn't good. But if someone's past 100 posts only contain criticism of said player...and goes from thread to thread with it. It's negative.

Imo, Roy was getting bashed long before there was a true drop-off in his play. It started with the skins game in '05 and went downhill from there. I never thought he was as bad as many people obviously feels he is. I also don't think he's as dynamic a player he was when he entered the league. That's a realistic take on him. Suggesting he's garbage and all that.. that's negativity.
