So let's say hypothetically the mediocrity continues and Red is fired at the end of the season. I have one word that should send a chill down the spine of any and all cowboys fans.

Norv

Would Jerry do this to us? He would fit the mold of offensive genius who works with QBs and is easily manipulated.

Norv coming in here is 100% status quo. I'd rather have a coach that has zero ties to the Cowboys organization, the glory years, or Jerry Jones.

Me -- I'd like a Sean Payton / Mike Mcarthy disciple of some sort. I am a big fan of offensive schemes that create opportunities for good players to maximize their ability.

Norv is a great OC and a mediocre head coach which makes him light years better than Garrett. We should have paid him whatever he wanted to come fix this offense, but little red riding hood's ego couldn't handle it.

I'm not even sure Norv is still a great OC...certainly not HC.
I think that offense is a bit behind the times.

He's a good guy and all, but I think Philip Rivers, for example, has greatly benefited from Norv's departure

I assure you, if Garrett gets canned, that's exactly the type of coach you'd get. Perhaps even Norv himself.

Garrett is unique in that he runs the team like a head coach, but has the class and character to deal with Jerry in the background and not get as agitated as other qualified coaches would.

It's a pipe dream to think another Parcells-like hiring would ever happen. Jerry got his stadium built, so he's done with that.

Garrett will be here a long, long time.

I agree. And, I think if Jerry were to pull the trigger and let Garrett go, we're looking at a much bigger splash than Norv Turner. We've got the right guy at HC. We're doing the right things with the roster. We need to finally start playing better pass defense somehow.

Red getting fired is the biggest obstacle. Jones loves him. He'll have at least one more year regardless if were 8-8 7-9 6-10. I really believe this

Garrett can stay for all I care as long as a real OC is brought in with a whole new system and all ties to offensive control by Jason are severed.

I find this mythical roster improvement talk under Garrett to be an absolute joke. The results simply are not their and the team still relies heavily on the players acquired by previous regimes. It shouldnt be taking this long.

*there. And I'm not surprised to hear you feel this way.

I'll give you one thing on that front...we've made a ton of changes to the players most commonly in pass coverage, and to the defensive scheme and, while I do think they are all good players, it's not paying off at all. I'm open to the argument that Carr/Claiborne/Scandrick/Church/Wilcox/Lee/Carter aren't capable talent back there, because the results stink so far and they have for several seasons, but I honestly have a hard time seeing why it is. All of them but Claiborne look like good, quality NFL starters to me, so I don't understand why we're not playing better pass defense. It's befuddling, and makes it hard for me to decide how it is I think we're going to get better other than everybody just doing the small things. I agree that that's a completely unsatisfying answer in light of the 400 yards/3tds we just gave up this weekend.

There are a total of 13 players on the roster today there were on the roster when Garrett took over.

Tony Romo

Miles Austin

Dez Bryant

Jason Witten

Phil Costa

Doug Free

Jason Hatcher

Jay Ratliff

Anthony Spencer

DeMarcus Ware

Barry Church

Orlando Scandrick

L.P. Ladouceur

Some of these are either not starters but here for depth, or on IR or PUP. So if you remove them out, 9 players out of 53. 85% of the roster has been changed since Garrett took over as HC. 85%.. that's a lot of turnover. Tony, Miles, Dez, Jason W, Jason H, Ware, Church Scandrick, all are playing at very high levels (maybe not Miles with all his injuries) so why would t they rely on them?

The talent is here. The problem is not the coaching, the FO or the schemes. The issue has been and continues to be that the players, are great 9 out of 10 plays. But it's that 1 play at the wrong time that cost us games. The players have to show up and play consistent for anything else to change. We have all seen Dez make tough catches, but in our 2 losses, he had 2 key drops, he makes those catches, maybe we win. Same thing for Witten, huge drop on Sunday, seen him make that catch 100 times, he didn't Sunday, he makes it, the game is different. Not bashing the players, I think they are all great. But until they learn to step up and play their best when its on the line, no coach, no GM, no whatever, is going to make a difference.

I thought that the past offseason that Garrett should have got on his knees and begged Norv Turner to come back and be the OC for us. I think Norv would have been great with Romo. He's excellent at working with quarterbacks. Having said that, Norv probably would not have wanted to come back as an OC anyway in Dallas. I would never want Norv has head coach.

if Garrett gets fired I expect Lovie Smith will be the next HC - all his Tampa buddies are in place

Not likely.
There is some animosity between the two going back to the Jimma days. As the story goes, Jimma, Norv and the rest of the braintrust were seated at a table. Jerra, alone at the bar, walks over, wanting to be one of the boys. The TV has a game on and Jerra asks, "What play would you call?" According to the story, Norv sniffs at the question (in other words, there are too many elements in calling a play from the sidelines, let alone from a bar). That is when, as legends go, Jerra went back to the bar, got liquored up and stated "I can get 500 coaches to coach this team," depending on the source.

As good-natured (PR guy) as Jerra is and as forgiving (look at the Ratliff incident) he's not gonna forget that slight.

It's MY pipe dream and I'll dream if I want to, lol.
