Only way to keep this team motivated going forward, in my opinion

This upcoming run of games without Romo is going to be different than the last batch. With Romo gone, all hope has left this team. This team knows what it has in Cassels, as shown by 4 straight 'must win' losses with an otherwise fully healthy team. The D that for the most part was playing with heart will now play to not get hurt. Guys like McClain, Hardy, Church, etc. will start to think if it's worth putting the body on the line for a lost season, when a big injury could ruin their next contract and livelihood. Sure, same fringe players will give their all, but most players will check out. I personally think the games are going to stop being close like they were, and start being more Carolina-esque blowouts.

If the Skins go on to win today, and we stay 2 games back, the only way I think this team rallys together is if Kellen Moore is announced as the starter going forward. So rather than the feeling of inevitability, there would be reason for hope. A 'what if??' amongst the players. There's probably no worse feeling going out on the field with another 'veteran' qb that's lost the last 8 games. With a new young qb, there's atleast a possibility of a different outcome.

There's nothing to lose, and in the best case scenario, a short term Romo replacement to gain. The idea that a veteran gives you the best chance to win is idiotic, if 0-8 is any indication. With that thinking Romo would never have gotten a chance back in 06. With Moore, worst case he loses and isn't worth a roster spot next year, but guess what, we're probably going to lose anyway. Why not try it.

Never in a million years will Garret do this, but I would honestly be pumped if Moore was playing in next game. There's be a glimmer, if very small, of hope. If it's still Cassels, I almost don't want to watch, because at that point I want the team to lose anyway to secure a higher pick.

What do you guys think?

I thought I read the other day that they plan on playing Moore some down the stretch. I'm guessing after the Skins kick our *** Sunday and we officially kill our season off they'll go with Moore the rest of the way to see what he does or doesn't have.

We won't see Moore until we are officially eliminated, and then still not until the last game or two.
If we still have a shot at being spoiler, they will play Cassell. Which is not saying much. Cassell, as well as Moore, will be playing for a chance at QB next year as well.

I would like to see what Moore can do. I doubt they give Showers a chance, as that means releasing a player they are better off keeping on the roster under contract for next year. Unless that player is a FA, like Heath or Wilber.

So they're not going to play hard so they won't get hurt so they can get a big free agent deal in the offseason? Sounds reasonable.

A lot of players should be playing for jobs. That's the only motivation.

well said.
When players play not to get hurt, that is when they get hurt.
I would not want any player on a team that would not give 100% no matter what. That is how you build / keep team character. Go down fighting. Use it to build upon next year.
Should they play some younger players to see what they have, yes, but still play at 100% effort.

Would it not give a fan pride, knowing we beat GB, and that loss knocks them out of the playoffs. Sure we may drop from the 4th pick to the 7th...whoopy crap...Goff is ranked #7th overall at this point in the draft. But that can change very quick. He may drop to 12, if we ended up picking there.

Really? I cannot think of a bunch of contested roles on this team. Not that there is too much talent, but I think there is not deep enough reflection by the organization on what is truly wrong.

I am on the fence about Moore playing this season. Of course, we need to see what he can do but what if he plays just well enough(but obviously not the long-term answer) to make Jerry think he is our future and not draft a QB?

That scares me...............

Jerry will chalk this one up to all the injuries suffered, believe they are 1-2 players from his "**********", and go about the offseason in that fashion. How many times have we seen that? This is the least proactive franchise in professional sports.

That's what I mean they should be playing for jobs somewhere else.

You're right, a guy who has never started an NFL game and couldn't beat out Dan Orlovsky as Stafford's backup, is going to be the reason people continue to lay their health on the line.

That makes absolutely no sense at all. If players aren't confident in a guy who's actually won games in this league how on earth is a noodle arm newbie going to inspire them?

All the Moore talk is grasping for straws and whiffing.

The only thing starting Moore does is officially give up the season.

This is even more rubbish than all this Moore talk. Jerry Jones is one of the most aggressive owners in sports. Their issue isn't lack of being proactive. Their issue is being out of touch with what they have and where to be active.

The "least proactive team in professional sports" wouldn't constantly be skirting the salary cap or making weekly roster moves.

Losing has bred absolute lunacy on this forum.

I hope the players quit to be honest and things get so bad that Jerry has no choice but to change the head coach.

It's time for change around here and maybe put Romo in the most optimal situation for a Superbowl.

Some of the players won't like it because they like Garrett so much but this is for the better.

They are the most reactive franchise I have ever seen......Jerry saw how McNabb played so drafted Quincy.....saw Manning make all kinds of audibles so Romo started doing it.........etc...etc...

exactly. the draft philosophy is the same reactive nonsense. they draft replacements after the key player hits FA not the year before. Want proactive? The Broncos committed $58 million to Manning, then a month later still drafted Osweiler.

this is what I'm hoping for as well. any situation that involves the firing of Garrett i'm all for. if that means epic blowouts and complete, utter humiliation for every remaining game, then so be it

Offensive line? Linebacker? Corner? Wide Receiver? Tight End? Runningback?

All of those positions have been addressed well before the incumbent has been a free agent. I get what you're trying to say, and I think to an extent it used to be much more true, not so much the last few years though.
