I have to give credit to Payton, he tore us apart as far as coaching and getting his guys ready to play.

The one play that I have to admit was brilliant was the onside kick that no one expected.... we were still kinda in the game and next thing you know he pulls one that would eat at the Cowboys on how they could allow it to happen. It was a great psyche move on their part.

On the flip side though, it gives us a blue print on what to not take for granted, and shows us that we need to never stop fighting for the win.

On the Cowboys Huddle show that was broadcast Sunday morning, Babe Laufenberg asked Parcells about the surprise onside kick the 49ers pulled on the Saints last week.

BP said those only work when the players fail to concentrate on their responsibilities and he teaches all his players to see the ball leave the kicker's foot.

I just thought it was ironic that the headcoach was asked about this specific play, and it stilled worked to perfection against the Cowboys in their next game.

I didn't mind the on side kick call. Give the saints credit for pulling it off. I was upset that they continued to try and throw the ball on us well into the fourth qtr. Seemed like Peyton wanted to rub it in. And no I don't think kneeling on the ball 4 times with two minutes left shows any class. I hope to see them again.

i hate that he made the call to onside kick but i gotta admit that it was like you say Brilliant. I never would have saw that coming in a million years. I wish we had someone with the balls of payton to make calls like that and have a offense that keeps the other team guessing. Instead we have parcells...

If he was looking to rub it in he would have gone for more points instead of kneeing on the ball with 3 min left. The onside kick allowed the saints to put the game away for sure there is nothing insulting about it.

No the game was over at that point, they were up 18 points. It was classless.

Had we done this to Tamp when we were up 28-10, which is exactly the same the whole world would have gone crazy and called parcells classless

no the game was not over, was still in 3rd quarter... but I do understand what you are saying to a point about world going crazy if Dallas did it, but that would only be because it would be Dallas....

yes, the game was over once they successfully got the onside kick however.

say what you want, be the homie... I am just stating that that was ballsy but brilliant move to just rip our hearts out of the game and it was successful.

It was a great call and Cowboy's fans look like the biggest crybabies on earth whining about it.

I've been watching the Cowboys play since 1974...I can't remember Landry, Jimmy, Johnson, Norv Turner or Chan Gailey pulling something like that when the game was blown open. True enough, we should have been ready and weren't. It shows the lack of preparation/concentration. Hats off to Payton for getting over on us. With that said, I would never say it was brilliant, even if it were the Cowboys doing it. I would be a little disappointed in approaching the game that way. It's about the same thing as stuffing a basketball with two hands rather than a simple lay-up. Again, I give ALOT of credit to the Saints, but completely disagree with the onside. I suppose the whole taking a knee with three minutes left could be interpreted a couple of ways that have already been discussed ad vomitus maximus.

Onside kick: As previously stated, this was a perfect time to break our backs and it worked. It was obvious that a shootout was on the horizon and in a shootout I like our chances better than theirs. He put a stamp on it right then and there with the onside kick.

4th & 1: Some will say this was a stupid call. Others will say that Payton made a brilliant judgment call based upon his knowledge of Ware's "tendencies" to want to chase back side & make a play instead of staying home. I'm sure our coaches have talked to Ware about that at some point in time during the numerous hours of game film time. When the time came Ware did exactly what Payton though he would do.

I know its football but their is also a unwritten rule book and all the coaches know when to do some things and when not to. Whether this fits into this category i am not sure...but i thought it was very unclassy, but i am a fan wanting to win.

A lot of these unwritten rules are based on situations where it's (very) late in a game and the losing team is behind a large margin (a bit subjective though) and basically mailing it in (ie. substituting the 1st stringers with the backups)... In those cases, if the winning team is trying to score, then it would be viewed as classless...

Let's see about the onside kick... Late in the game? Nope, still early in the 3rd quarter... Losing team behind a ton? Nope. 3 scores isn't insurmountable especially with a lot of the 3rd quarter and the entire 4th left to play. Losing team mailing it in? Nope, the 1st stringers are still in there TRYING to score.

I reiterate. This was a big risk, big reward type of deal for Payton. At worst, it could be viewed as dumb since he was up a few scores. Classless? NO WAY!

I didn't like the call. The Saints had all the momentum in the world, why risk give Dallas a short field and potentially get them back in the game?

Like the 4th and 1 reverse, it looked good because it worked. But Payton is going to learn you can't make a living on calls like that.

Jimmy Johnson made a decent living

I was actually waiting for that to happen, once Payton had the Saints go for it on 4 down, not only go for it, but use a reverse to do it, I knew Payton was pulling out all the stops

I didn't like the call, but it's like the TO star celebration, don't allow that to happen, do a better job on the field, because as some have already noted, if Dallas recovered the ball, it wouldn't have looked very smart at all since we would have had great field possession, and w/ that thought in mind, and if the game were close, or God forbid, we were out in front, Payton most likely wouldn't have utilized it

I think that you need to check you facts before stating what you just did. I don't think that you can consider "try and throw the ball on us well into the fourth qtr." the 15:00 and 14:57 mark, can you? In fact, after the onsides kick was recovered by us at the 5:16 mark in the 3rd qtr, Brees was only 2 of 4 for the rest of the 3rd qtr., one of which was a TD at the 3:47 mark. The Saints then intercepted Romo with :49 left in the 3rd. On that possession, Brees attempted 2 passes but completed none. That possession rolled into the 4th qtr, 15:00 and 14:57. We never attempted another pass for the rest of the 4th. It was all run. Dallas quit. Payton was not trying to rub it in, as you say. In fact Payton took the knee with 3:00 left in the game to not rub it in. Dallas couldn't stop us. If you don't believe me, here's the play by play log.

I don't know if the move lacked class...but I will say, there was an air of arrogance when Parcells said, of Payton's proposed trade for Romo "I told him to lie down on the couch and drink a glass of warm milk"

That's the kind of thing you'd say to a child...and while I thought it was funny as hell...I can't say that I'd disagree with Payton if it got under his skin a bit that Parcells said that to the media.

Hey....regarding the game. The Cowboys got whupped. It's not the Saints fault that we quit. Hell, everyone on the planet knew the Saints were going to run and we couldn't stop them because we quit.

And as I've heard someone say "OK. I'll promise to stop scoring in a game if you promise to try not to come back against us"

When you see what the Titans did to the Giants in the last 9 minutes of their game, you realize, very few games are in the bag before they are over.
