I see nothing wrong with that open letter. people have got to realize that Dez has feelings too. and that like it is business for the cowboys. it's business for Dez too. what if next year with only this one year deal, he tears up a knee? he won't get anywhere near the money he is worth. can anyone blame him next year if he still plays hard.but he also plays not to get hurt. that's not the way Dez plays. but not having a long term deal could be a factor in how the man plays.

That's a better read than I was expecting. Pretty informative, and not a condescending criticism of anything Dez has done to-date.

I'm torn and Dez is my favorite Cowboy not named Tony Romo.

I can see him get that deal, the vultures start circling, and he can find himself in some shady situations.

I also remember Dallas trading up to take a shot on a kid that the rest of the league gave up on. I remember him crying on draft day, humbled, and hungry. I want to see people get what they deserve in life, and Dez will most certainly get his. I also don't want greed to ruin an otherwise happy marriage.

I've seen Jerry pay stupid money to undeserving people, which makes me ask - why suddenly get cheap for your home grown, franchise WR that pretty much guarantees you 15 TDs and 1200 yards a year?

So it's not really black or white for me, I can see both sides, I just hope something gets done - we don't need Dez holding out and Ed Werder camped outside of the Ranch each day doing ESPN's Panda Watch Day 25.

A WR with a busted knee isn't worth much. Why would Dallas want to pay top dollar to one?

If Dez only plays one more year and makes 13m that is more than fair.

I'd pay Dez in a heartbeat. The only holdup--and it's a big one--as far as I"m concerned is that that stupid Johnson deal didn't 'set the market.' It overshot the market, which is why Dez and Thomas are having a hard time getting similar numbers even three (?) offseasons later. If the real hangup is the guaranteed money and not the AAV, then something will get done after the VFA period cools off once we see the deals that lesser players at this position are getting. That's fairly significant new information that can probably move whichever side turns out to have been wrong about the value of top WR prospects towards an agreement.

Yeah but you have to think about it from his point of view. He wants security. If he plays on the Tag, and does get hurt, he may have missed out on Millions.

The longer it goes, the more I'll blame Dez for it.

For all of Jerry's faults, one of them is not treating his players unfairly. At some point you have to be a team player and stop chasing every last dollar.

I know what he wants, but why should Dallas have to pay for multiple seasons if he gets hurt next year? At least he has made 11m so far and is scheduled to make 13m next year.

Most players in the league are playing on non-guaranteed contracts without a safety net.

TFred could blow out his knee this year and never play again. I bet he would be less unhappy if he made 13m next year. Murray just laid it on the line last year and set team and league records on his non-guaranteed rookie deal. Now no one wants to pay him because he did so much last year.

Why should I care about Dez' future while I'm kicking Murray to the curb?

These are the things keeping Dez away from the mega payday.
1) He is not CJ.
2) He is not Randy Moss.
3) He is not T.O.
4) Off the field issues
5) Back problems
6) Disappears in games, he can be schemed out of production. The 3 guys up top, could/can not be stopped.
7) Walked off the sideline during a game.
8) Dallas is a running team
9) Dallas does not want to strap the team financially, because the defense needs work
10) Joey Galloway and KeyShawn still haunt JJ

Ok the same can be said about any player. You cant not pay them based on risk of injury. Is the NFL going to stop paying superstars because they may or may not get hurt? That doesnt even make sense. Guess no one should pay Russel Wilson because he could hurt himself in training camp, wait lets not pay anyone because they can get hurt?

I'm not saying that at all. Teams take risks all the time, but they don't have to go crazy. Everyone is replaceable and at some point you have to be able to walk away. If Dez thinks 28m over the next 2 years is an insult then that should end all negotiations. It has to be a give and take, but just don't expect me to care more about Dez' money than the team. I was a Cowboys fans long before Dez was even born and I will be a Cowboys fan long after he is gone.

I get it. Dez wants his security and his money.

And if there is a team out there willing to give him CJ money?

Good luck Dez......

Now, who is playing for the Dallas Cowboys team?

Dez is a superstar. He is going to get his. He can join CJ with his money and all that, but he does that. I doubt he ever gets to a Super Bowl. And getting to a Super bowl and especially winning it. Being a superstar on a team that does that, puts you above the CJ money for years and years to come....

imho. These types of contracts for players, excluding the QB position , while good for that player, are bad for the team. The TEAM.

I know. its a business, etc etc etc,...money money money.

But if I am coach. GM. Owner. I want TEAM guys. If you cant grasp that. Go away.

I don't see this as calling out faults. I see it as an evaluation of what the team might be considering in these negotiations.
