were the two people getting abused by him all game long. The site has his number as 53 but there is no 52 and this is the only similar number that is an olineman.

I don't really think it's much of an argument at this point. The argument is if the Cowboys are even interested in a player like Jernigan in the 1st.

I really like Jernigan, he and Donald are 1A and 1B for me at DT. His hand usage and combination of brute strength and quickness make him tough to handle inside, and he's very consistent in dictating the action and controlling his blocker... he's not someone who can be single blocked for stretches of a game because he's just too good at engaging and disengaging blockers with violence and quickness. He can literally rag doll and toss Lineman, insane functional strength. And he has the athleticism to make plays anywhere between the tackle box once he's disengaged. I really admired watching him play the run, whether it was anchoring and splitting double teams or penetrating with a quick arm over to get into the backfield for a TFL, you will be getting an Elite player against the run who you can plug from day 1 and expect an impact.

Most people's issues with him center around his pass rush, and while I do recognize he has work to do in becoming better in that area I believe he has all the tools necessary to excel as an interior rusher, and it's only a matter of time become he masters that as well. It's important to keep in mind that this was a guy who played the 0 or 1 for FSU, traditionally a very tough position to have much success rushing the passer, but he still made his fair share of pressures and sacks. He can bull rush you into the backfield or use a swim/rip to blow by you, at 21 years old there's no reason to be he won't continue to master those skills and continues to develop additional moves in the pass rush game.

Bottom line, I see his best fit in a 4-3 defense as the NT but with enough versatility and playmaking ability to also be used as an effective 3T. He's already pretty good, with the upside to become great with some more seasoning. Not a lot of guys bring the versatility to be a plus 2-gapper AND be a plus penetrator. Complete DT, and it doesn't hurt that he plays with a mean streak.

well said
if he lives up to expectations, he and melton can be a dangerous combo in the middle of our DL

Donald is a Ratliff type. Otherworldy quick twitch and perfect 3T. Probably can play a SDE pretty easily. Tests like one anyways.
Not a guy to hold a gap so may not be seen as perfect for all schemes but a legit top 10 player imho.

Jernigan is a big guy that can flat play.
He isn't going to make as many big plays as Donald but he seldom gets beat.
The Floyd comparison is about right.
R1 value but probably not up at 16.

Both guys would be day 1 starters in Dallas. (Dallas would find a way to use Melton as a starter too)

Well, everyone knows that I love Donald as a 3T for Marinelli, and that I think that as far as Dallas is concerned, there is Donald and then everyone else. However, I really do like Jernigan a lot too. I love his attitude and his strength. He is truly a load up front.

If Dallas ends up with Jernigan, I will be fine with it because that will mean that Marinelli likes him and has ways that he plans on using him both in the base defense and in the nickle. He really does have terrific functional strength and is still learning to use it. His first step isn't Donald's, but then there are very few DT's that can even get close to Donald's first step. There have been tons of DT's playing in the NFL that were very successful and didn't have Donald's first step quickness.

Still... I would love for us to get Donald first and foremost... but if he is gone by the time we pick then I would be fine with Jernigan if that's what the team and Marinelli want to do.
