This seems like a good time to quote an excerp from a May 24 article in the Star-Telegram

IRVING -- Not long after linebacker Bradie James signed a contract extension that included an $8 million signing bonus last fall, his head coach offered him the following words of encouragement:
"I wouldn't have paid you that much," Bill Parcells told James.
"Oh, that's just Bill being Bill," James said.
And they both shared the same agent.
But James was one of Parcells' guys. He was a BP Guy.
Now with Parcells "retired," the BP Guys will have to find their place on this team -- assuming there is one -- and create a new level of trust and responsibility with coach Wade Phillips.

Looks to me like when you give a guy a big signing bonus, you want him to be around for a while. Doesn't that pretty much tell the head coach who is going to start for the next few years? If he's getting paid $8 Mil SB and if he gets beat out by Bobby Carpenter, isn't that a lot to pay a backup? If you trade him, it accererates immediately against the cap. Hmmm.
With Parcells in essence saying TO wasn't his idea, looks to me like Jerry's still insisting on being head scout and talent judge and still pulling some of the key strings and determining who to hire and how much to pay. That's his right as owner and GM but I hope he remembers all those prior times when he was convinced he was right before while leading the team to less than mediocre 5-11records.
I hope Jerry is not falling back into old habits, or if so, I hope he has learned something the last four years. If Bobby Carpenter beats out Brady James, that doesn't bode well unless the size of his SB is indicative of what we're going to be seeing with the increased Salary Caps. Looks like inflation is hitting the NFL big time.
Just things to think about this year.
