How did Carpenter ever get picked in the first round? He is the definition of soft.

Did anybody else see the first series when Sage Rosenfel came in and it was 3 and 4. They run a draw and Carpenter actually put his hand on the runners head and jumped back like he was protecting his legs, letting the runner gain a couple extra yards and the first down.

That play alone is a good reason to cut him.

Has Carpenter ever actually stood a runner up? He's bringing around 250lbs with him and he never uses it. He always seems to be standing near the pile when the whistle blows or managing to hold on as he's dragged for a couple more yards, and he's almost never the first one there.

Cut your losses and keep a guy who at least has some toughness. :bang2:

more like 260

Ummm ?????

Stock Up

1. Marcus Spears. Had his best game of the preseason with two key tackles at the line of scrimmage.

2. Marc Colombo and Flo Adams. The two tackles took control of Mario Williams the whole night.

3. Marion Barber. Averaged 5.8 yards per carry on 13 touches.

4. Bobby Carpenter. Started on some passing downs and led the team with eight tackles. Wade Phillips said Carpenter had a great first half.

Carp does suck.. I mean blow... I watched him on every single play he was in. He cant shed a block to save his life , he fills the gap 2 seconds too late and when he blitz's , all he does is occupy space so another defender can penetrate.

I hope he uses some of that money he makes to better himself after football because he is too soft to play LB in this league.. Well ILB in a 3-4 anyway. He might be better off as SOLB in a 4-3.

And who the hell cares if he has 8 tackles. Having 8 tackles, 8 yards down the field is not impressive..

I hope he gets better and feeds off of Zach's intensity..

And is just me of does this guy have a ear issue? He cant keep his balance to save his life. He is the most 'stumbling' player I have ever seen. Almost hyperextended his knee on the Texans sideline just running out of bounds in the the 3rd quarter.

Don't you know these mental midgets on this site know more about football - and defense specifically - than Wade Phillips?

Wow,

If I'm calling for someone to be cut tonight it's Bowen, he got blown off the line all night. I know he rushes the passer decently but he can't anchor against my grandma.

He's played well in the past, I'm curious why he was in the game so often so early and on running downs. Maybe they were just protecting Canty.

With injuries to the LB spot and problems with special teams, Carp isn't going anywhere. This guys has the physical tools, he seems lacking mentally. If the Zachmyster can have any influence on the Bobby, maybe things will pan out for him.

Some obvious problems:

1. play recognition
2. weak at the point of attack/plays to high
3. lets blockers get into his body/doesn't shed off blocks well
4. lacks attacking ability probably due to recognition

I noticed this too about Bowen. Also, doesn't is seem like most our backup O n D linemen are out of shape?

Carp is soft.

One play two Cowboys were tackling a Texan and Carp was in position to NAIL the runner and stop him cold. Carp shied away from contact and the dude gain good yardage afterward. Carp got a tackle on the stat sheet but he was a failure on the play. He keeps doing this.

Said from day one I thought he was overrated coming out of college and that he was soft. *Pats own back*

But seriously, the guy played alongside AJ Hawk who was constantly the center of opposing offensive coordinators schemes. I watch alot of Big 10 football, and the guy never made plays. He just had plays come to him. Thought the pick was stupid then and was hoping for Cromartie or Lawson. (Funny thing is though, I was only wanting Cromartie b/c of my Madden franchise I had drafted him from NCAA and he tore it up, it had nothing to do with his play lol)

Nobody else saw that because it didn't happen that way.

The runner was already being tackled by Hatcher several yards in front of Carpenter. A guard was blocking Carpenter, and that's who he put his hand on -- after the runner was down.

If that's the play I'm thinking of, it was actually a good play by Carpenter. He avoided a block and got in on a tackle...something he's not particularly great at.

No, Carpenter wasn't in on the tackle on that play. Hatcher made the tackle as the runner was going through the line.

Hmmm. Must have been another play I was thinking of. Either way, it's good to see him avoiding/shedding blocks better than he has in the past.
