Opinion: Give Mr Parker a chance

It seems to me like your definition of very good = playoff wins and Super Bowl rings. Outside of that, both of them are elite QB’s and the #’s show it. I do have a different definition of very good bc playoff wins and championships are a team stats not a QB stat.
What’s the most important position on the field? Do very good QBs make players around them better? Dak and Romo are the definition of average. Romo was better than Dak. #s and stats are your go to?

Hey, OP, you going to start this same thread in 2035 when our D is still 30th and the players are still running around like chickens w/ their heads cut off?

Your definition of elite is bad.

Say we finally get healthy in the secondary.

Does Bland play the slot over Downs?
Does Downs go to SS/ more of a rover Safety spot?

10000%.. If a team was willing to give up a ton of draft capital or trade for Dak that could help our team, plus, if Milton sucks the rest of the year we just move on, but call me crazy but I love milton and believe he could flourish if given a chance... Again, I'm not in the building everyday so don't know Miltons shortcomings, but on the surface this is what I would do... Shotty, is just too nice of a guy and obviously just happy to be a head coach..

Just like we gave Romo a chance? Just like we’ve given Dak a chance? Just like we gave the clapper a chance? And the beat goes on and on and on!!!! Sure…give 5-6 years of on the job training. Hire somebody qualified for the position.
Actually, yes, just like those three things. Sometimes you have to start rookies. Sometimes you hire a first time coach or coordinator. Quite often, there isn't a realistic way of moving on from them as quickly as you otherwise might have. I've always found it strange how often people talk about signing other quarterbacks, making coaching changes, etc. as if those moves are zero-cost and/or guaranteed to produce positive results. In quite a few cases, there aren't any experienced free-agent QBs or successful head coaches sitting around waiting on teams to call them, meaning there aren't any better (or even any good) options to choose from in the first place.

Take this offseason...who would you have had the Cowboys sign to replace Dak (who they would, presumably, release)? I can't think of an unsigned-but-viable QB who would have come anywhere close to what Dak has done or that you could reasonably anticipate him doing this season. If I'm forgetting someone, now's your chance to offer up an example. Most of time, people just bark "change" or "new blood" or "somebody qualified for the position" or something similar without putting forward any other potential options.

By all means, Jerry has set the standard for status quo for not upgrading coaching or the QB position. What exactly has Dink done? 11 years equals 2-5 and always folds vs good defenses. I’ll take a fence post over Dink at this point. At the end of the day, what’s the difference? Neither is getting you to a SB. It’s not my job to point out the options. The bozos in our FO are suppose to do that but they also are not qualified for the job. I hope you’re not defending the Jones hire of our DC.

Ok you're crazy.

I will give him a chance. Same as most anybody.

Now if Jerry brought Zeke back, for example, no I'm not giving him a chance, he's had his chances with the team. We have an ample body of work to show what he is and could co.

That's not the same with Parker, he's new to the team and new to the DC position. So he's due a chance.

But here's the thing - by bringing in players like Clark, Gary, Miller, Bullard et al, as well as having a 33 yr old qb with somewhat of an injury history, guys like Steele who are getting along in NFL years, Jerry has put this team in a win-now situation, whether or not that was his intention.

That being the case, it's not a good idea to bring in greenhorn DC who has to learn on the job to get to top DC status. By the time he gets to that level Cowboys will likely have a new draftee quarterback, Lamb may be done, as well as Pickens, Steele and others due to age, and good players on the team like Beebe and so forth probably will be gone to other teams due to salary cap considerations.

Just not the right hire given the Cowboys' current situation...

Downs is better in the slot than at deep safety, and Bland's play hasn't warranted playing him over anyone.

Personally I would go with Porter and Durant as the outside CBs but Bland's contract probably means he plays ahead of Durant.

No matter who Jerry hired it would’ve been the same.

revolve around hoping the Cowboys

Dick Lebaeu and Buddy Ryan were defensive line and backs coaches before they were promoted to defensive coordinator.

Did they not learn on the job, too?
Spagnuolo, Saban and Fangio all had rough first years as DC.

Through five games the Cowboys have 34 penalties.

Thats 20th in the league and by the time the Falcons, Chiefs and Bills play their fifth game, the Cowboys will likely be 24th.

So, are you saying that’s a reflection of a culture?

:)
Bills commited 13 penalties last night.

So, no Cowboys won't be 24th.

Thank goodness for small favors!

I would be more inclined to give him a chance if the issues were scheme related, they are not in my opinion.

The issue is execution and being prepared, which the players are not. That speaks more to coaching ability then Xs and Os to me.

Cowboys finished week five 23rd in penalties. That’s a good number.

It’s something that doesn’t fit in with the narrative so it doesn’t get any play this year.

Penalties were one of the top three must improves during the off season.

Last year we were 1st.

Of course, but just how much of a chance? Are we willing to dump the season just because he deserves a chance?

Ok you're crazy.
As I said, I'm not in the building, but why is it crazy to go with Milton and tade Dak? Because by your account you think we should keep Dak because he is a world beater in the playoffs? How many teams start rookie qb's because they're first round picks but end up sucking? Why is it far fetched to roll with Milton? It's called taking a risk.. He has shown he can play in the preseason without all the weapons Dak plays with... If Dak could bring many draft picks I would take them and lose his salary, sounds like something Gruden would do as well....

While I think Howell is a better option than Milton, I have no issue w/ moving on from Dak and going w/ a young guy.

Well thank goodness the preseason is 17 weeks long! Oh wait…
