I think Conner Williams will become the swing tackle, thus salvaging his 2nd round status.
If your a 2nd round pick OL, and yoy arent starting, thats not salvaging your draft status.

Either way, I think Conner starts at LG. He jump out a few times for the wrong reasons, but all in all he had a pretty solid year before getting hurt

I expect looney to start
McG to be swing guy

Very well could be. However I let them battle it out. Because Looney has experience I admit I feel comfortable with him at center but McGovern very well could prove himself as the better man. Should be an interesting battle for center

I understand your thoughts completely. And I do hope he's able to start at LG. That said, it will be nice to have reliable, 2nd round depth for our OL this year at the very least.

Can the other Connor play center?
He can't take on power at OG and you want him at C directly in front of you QB? Heck to the No!

He can not play C, has never played C, and does not need to be put at C never ever.

Fans think the job should be Looney's because they have seen him do it for the Cowboys. But Conner McGovern wasn't even on the team then. At the time McG was drafted he was advertised as one of the top college prospects capable of playing C/G. So it should not be surprising to see him get the nod over Looney to get the starting C job.

Looney played well in 18, but every single one of us needs to want McGovern to win the center job and be a core player for the team for the next decade.

He has a very similar profile to Frederick coming out of the draft, and it's possible by mid season center is a strength again.

2nd round picks are supposed to be starters not reserved. And yes I will cut slack for major knee surgery. This guy has been underwhelming so far.

It is possible but IMO it is Looney's position to lose. At least for the upcoming season.
Looney played admirably at C in 2018. But I’m also of the opinion that Connor McGovern has more raw talent and more upside than Looney. I could see McGovern taking a little time to get up to speed but I think he’s a better long term answer than Looney who is more of a stop gap.

We have three guys competing for two starting positions. So we are in pretty good shape even if we don't add any more competition in FA or draft.

Looney is much better than most give him credit for. McGovern was rated above where we drafted him and even though derailed by injury should have benefited from a year under his belt. CWill is entering his third year. How much that experience advances his play could determine a lot.

My guess as to what we should hope for is that Looney & McGovern become starters (regardless of which position) and CWill becomes our swing tackle & jumbo package specialist.

I have no idea if McGovern has more upside. He is coming off an injury and we have not seen him play enough to know if he could handle the role of starting C. Until he proves he can step on the field and take the position from Looney, then for me he is an unproven 2nd year player coming off injury.

We all need to remember that Connor Williams tore his ACL in late November. He may not be ready for week 1. Which means McGovern and Looney are both starting.

Maybe, but i think this is Looney's job to lose. C is a big deal, and typically you want a vet if possible. Frederick came in and did a great job day 1, but i think he is the exception and not the rule. I'd rather see Williams/McGovern battle it out for the LG spot., the loser of that battle likely becomes one of the better backup O lineman in the NFL.

Not likely, but possible.

Looney is serviceable, but McGovern and Redmond will probably get first shot at winning the full-time center job. Looney is a quality backup.

This.

McGovern was drafted because he was great value in the 3rd round, and he was plan B in case Fredbeard was not able to return from his illness. Fortunately, Fredbeard was able to resume his center duties when he returned, and McGovern tore his pec in TC.

agreed...keep in mind..that Conner is another year older...bigger..more seasoned...He was small and a rookie ..next to Looney...If Williams can take another step in both areas...then it could/should make it easier for Looney to not have to handle his duties as well as worry about the undersized rookie. and if not...Lets get McGovern in there and let Williams be the swing ....

i'd look at Redmond to play center
.

The team announced they had re-signed offensive lineman Adam Redmond.

The center from Harvard has been with the team since 2018, after being claimed off waivers from the Bills. He played in 10 games in 2018, and spent half of last year on injured reserve.

He was an exclusive rights free agent, which means not really a free agent at all since he couldn’t negotiate with other teams.
he played also

McGovern beats out Looney to start at center, and Looney starts at LG.
Connor Williams is swing tackle/hopeful successor to Tyron at LT.
