OPINION: Sporano wil be our next HC; Garrett will be our next OC

Based on what I'm reading, I have a feeling that Sporano will be our next head coach, and Garrett will be our next OC.

In 2006, the offense was jointly run by Haley and Sporano (and Parcells). Since, the cowboys have allowed Haley to interview with other teams,, and word is he will be joining the Cardinals. But the Cowboys have denied teams permission from interviewing Sporano. They did that last year; they're doing it again. That tells me they REALLY want to keep him, and he was also the assistant head coach in 2006.

I don't think Garrett will be the next head coach because his only NFL playing experience is at QB, and his only pro coaching experience is as QBs coach. His natural progression makes sense to take him to an OC position. Garrett is Unlike Sporano who has coached TE's, the OL and has been an assistant head coach in the NFL, and has been a head coach in college as well. It’s clear that Sporano is much more qualified to be the head coach and that’s why I see him as the next HC, with Garrett as the next OC (and potentially next HC down the line).

Your thoughts?

I think its very possible and not unlikely (except for the Parcells part).

I think it's possible too.

Actually, I think Sparano and Bowles are both solid candidates and good coaches. I would actually like to hold on to both of them, if possible.

I'll be really shocked if Garrett is named the next HC because he really does not have hte experience; he's never even coordinated a unit in the NFL, so what basis does he have for coordinating a whole team? Hey, I like Garrett and I would be thrilled if he's our next OC because he was smart QB and I think he can translate that towards coordinating his first unit in the NFL. I really hope we get him in that role!

This would make me happy. Sparano or Bowles. Heck, maybe even Haley. We can have weekly deathmatches between him and TO.

Here is the hard part of all the "gromming" ideas....any team can hire your O.C. for a H.C. position at ANY time. Kinda hard to do the gromming if there is little security.

I'd prefer stoops or Nutt.

But we could do a lot worse than Rivera/Garrett.

Either scenario is a step forward if we get Garrett as OC.

my guess:

Wade Phillips as HC
Jason G as OC
Ron Rivera as DC

I know some will ask, why would Rivera make a lateral move,, here is why:

1. his contract is up and JJ would pay more than the Bears
2. He would learn the 3-4 under one of the most respected 3-4 guys in the business today,, increasing his value as a potential HC
3. He will not be a HC this year, so he will be a DC somewhere,, why not here?
4. He would become a viable candidate for the HC of Dallas when Wade steps down.

I think Rivera would JUMP at the chance to be either the HC or the DC here.

What is it in Sparano's resume that has you impressed??

Seems to me he was our OL coach (among other duties) this year, and of course the line was the offense's WEAKEST unit...

I remember reading that several NFL people thought highly of Sparano's work with our O-Line earlier in the season. I think Pasquerelli had a mention about it in one of his Tip Sheets. We all saw enough games to know the line wasn't great, but it was solid at times. That might have been the best you could get with the talent here.

I actually think more of Sparano because of how many different people have spoken highly of him and wanted him though. Payton wanted him in New Orleans. The Chargers wanted him for an interview recently. Parcells thinks a lot of him. The players like his schemes and ideas too. And I thought the offense was better this year than it had been in a while. I don't know the guy, and it's not going to bother me too much no matter what happens, but I think he's a good coach. Given the choice, I would like to keep him.

Unfortunately you could be right about Sparano. BP made him the Asst HC and I have said here before that I thought he was grooming him to be the next HC. And BP is reportedly part of the search committee.

I hope it doesn't happen because the guy has no presence and does not come off as inspiring in any shape form or fashion in the limited interviews I have seen and heard him in. Not to mention it makes my skin crawl to think of him as our next Head Coach.

Hey, I'm not saying Sparano is dog meat, I'm just saying I don't entirely understand why he's the flavor du jour these days...

And I'm not saying that he should necessarily be the head coach. I just wouldn't be surprised if he was pretty highly thought of, and that Jerry and company wanted to keep him on the staff in some capacity.
