My brother had a ggod point .... he said that in the probowl anytime they run a 2 tight end set one of them is always wide open because they run bye whatever linebacker is trying to catch them ......

No team has ever had 2 all pro tightends at the same time ....... we could be looking at the start of a new type of offense ...... (ala the west coast and the run and shoot) ...... wonder what they will call an offense with 2 great TE's ?
Gulf Coast offense...

Jog and Lob...

Air Parcells...

Texas Two sTEp...

Nothing?? Didn't think so...:D

Sorry it's late.

Well, Green Bay had 2 pretty good TEs in Keith Jackson and Mark Chmura, when they ran this offense. And yes, both were probowlers, they won a Super Bowl with that team too.

Look - overall, I'm really happy with this draft. I seriously am. I think it was pretty solid.

But you can't look at me with a straight face and tell me that when you heard about Fasano you were like sweet that's awesome just what we were looking for in our two TE set.

Nobody here was on top of that pick until Jerry came up and said "that's who, um, smack, um, who we wanted, because, smack, uh, we're gonna run 2 te sets and need two te starters."

Sure, it's OK to be a little sold, but this pick is still open to questioning. It isn't as if we are going to have two 1000K yd TEs. And it isn't like our OL is shored up. Could we have gone a different direction? Absolutely. Do we have to be 100% happy with this pick because Jerry said 2 TEs is the way to go? Nope.

Now hopefully Fasano will work out - I sure hope so. But I have to express my distress that he went from the biggest *** pick since we traded out of the first 2 years ago to the next Bavaro.

This was still puzzling, and until we see this two TE theory in action, it will remain deserving of our ponderings.
Agree
agree
and agree.

I don't care if he is the next Bavarro. We have bigger needs and there were better players available.

Honest to god, my initial reaction was something along the lines of "duh..."

"McFly, hello McFly, Bill loves his tight ends, 2 TE sets, Campbell gone, Belichick drafts 'em high all the time, Parcells said he would draft a TE ever year.... we should have seen this one coming."

Well, I don't know about on top of this pick but I did have us taking Fasano in my mock draft. Not in the 2nd round thou.

There are some who just aren't ever going to like the Fasano pick - period. I initially scratched my head when I heard the pick but then they announced the 2 TE set etc. I knew there had to be an explanation for it.

If that was the plan all along, then this was a very good pick in retrospect.

Sarge,

Who's your avatar?

Looks like Riggins getting his head mistaken for a "Twist Off" bottle cap but can't see who is doing the twisting.

That's Harvey Martin taking Riggs head off.

;) I feel very bad about that.

New England took Ben Watson and Daniel Graham with first round picks to play in two tight end sets, and they've never used a 1st round pick on a WR. In other words ... its not a throw away position in this scheme, its a vital one.

I really dont see the outrage over this pick...he's a very good TE prospect...some things to consider:

1) Jones already is on record as saying the 2TE set will be the base offense...makes sense...Fasano is better than Ryan Hannam, who isnt much of a receiver..nor was Dan Campbell...

2) Jones said we were out of the FB business, and Polite is probably gone...but my guess is if we go to a short yardage type offense that Hannam would line up at FB...you still have Witten and fasano on the field, so the playaction pass from this formation is still a real threat...moreso than if Campbell (or Pierce, or Ryan) are the 2nd TE's

3) I think they will definitely resign Witten and will probably give him a huge deal in line with other top TE's, but Fasano is a hedge in case something does go bad and for whatever reason Witten cant be resigned

4) if Witten had gotten injured, we have abolsutely nothing behind him...none of the other TE's on this team (nor Hannam) were legit receiving threats

I just don't think Fasano is all that.
And if he wasn't Italian from Jersey... neither would BP.:D

I liked Klopfenstein and a small handful of others more than Fasano at the TE position. I hope I'm wrong.

I love when people base their draft grades on the fact that the Cowboys did not get their guy.

The reasoning is this...

Last year what was our greatest problem? Finding time for our receivers to get open so we could get them the ball. And doing so without constantly just dumping it off to Witten in the process. And there lies the hint.. Dumping off the short pass to a big guy worked for us, and worked well. He was always able to get open just enough and fast enough, the line could hold that 2-3 seconds that it was needed to hold, and Bledsoe most of the time got it away without any pressure if that's who he was looking for right away. Ala this year, we add TO and Fasani, similar types of recievers- receivers who will take it short and have a very good chance of picking up that first down on every touch. Gone are the days of Keyshawn getting a halfstep separation on his db while Bledsoe waits, gone are the days of waiting all year for Glenn to get far enough down field for him not to get killed immediately upon catching it. Now Bledsoe will have 3 quick options, 2 of which are Pro Bowl calibur. And all three in many cases will require a LB or someone larger to cover them. So in essence, we just created 3 proven matchups for ourselves instead of completely revamping the entire Oline in one offseason. We took what worked for us last season and emphasized it this year- or atleast are trying to at this point. The downside to this all,you can already see Glenn being pushed out of the picture. I mean sure he'll be used to mix things up from time to time, but his overall worth to us on the field is going to be alot less then it has in the past I believe. Our offensive attack will be majority short passes and run. I bet some will even start saying we look like we're running a "west-coast" style offense by the time we're done too. This is going to be a fun year if you like smashmouth style pass ball. To top it off, I wouldn't be surprised if alot of our running game is also converted into the short passing stuff, too.

I really thought Parcells had lost it, that he was trying to re-create some past glory fantasy of his with Carpenter and Fasano.

But the two-TE set just shows how little we all really know and understand as fans, and it's somewhat humbling (though it shouldn't be). These guys do this for a living. We have real professionals running the Cowboys' personnel department now.

Regardless of whether Dallas wins this year or not, this draft gives me confidence that the future is better secured.

That TE selection in the 2nd rd really surprised me, but now that Mr. Jones gave an explanation......I am fine with it.....he will help us.
