I'm making this thread to take the board's temperature on Dak after this the games played so far. I know last offseason everything was about Dak hate and love.

Personally I liked him last offseason but I felt he needed to prove he's developing this year. I'd certainly say he did so and thus I'm all in on Dak as our franchise QB.

What say ye?

The Cowboys can win with him at QB as long as they have a solid o-line and a great running game. That's all I have to say about that.

Hes an average QB. We could easily do worse but I like him at his current salary. We could do better but they are more comfortable keeping what they know than taking a chance on another guy who might only have more upside on paper (see all the 1st round blunders).

He's better this year than last year. That growth needs to continue. He's not worth what he is inevitably going to get paid, but what is the option? The guy has value.

And, there's nothing wrong with that, because, at the end of the game. A win is all that matters. Sorry stat lovers.

Good enough to be successful against the average teams in the regular season with enough support.

Not good enough to get the team over the hump in the post season.

I noticed a totally different front page in this Forum this week. Gone were the " We have the Best QB in the NFL" and gone were the " Dak is Holding this team back" threads loaded with infighting. It shows that most people were happy with his role as playing solidly with some rushes added in and not having to put the team on his back throwing 45-50 times. It was very revealing.

We can still debate his level of play and what hes worth but it shows that it can work

This sites opinion of Dak won't change. If anyone hated him last offseason they'd still hate him now. Anyone who liked him will still like him this year.

I think he’s actually converted some folks to believers.

He even had some of his harshest critics go silent or begrudgingly compliment him. Then NE, BUF and CHI happened and they felt vindicated and doubled down.

I’m a big fan tho after reserving judgement

I’m in.

He is not a top 5 QB.That said— He has definitely proven he is a top 10 QB BUT he also has great leadership, work ethic, media presence, and intangibles to handle the role of being the face of America’s Team.

Give him a quality defense and even average special teams play— and he can lead this team to a lot of wins.

FWIW— I don’t believe he has hit his ceiling yet. He came into this year to prove he is an elite QB in order to enhance his contract negotiations.

Once he gets signed and gets some more experience, I think he backs off a tad and becomes an even more effective QB.

The goal is not to have gaudy stats. The goal is to win games. That is all about decision making, leadership, and situational awareness. Brady is not the GOAT because of gaudy stats— he is the GOAT bc he functions at his best as a QB in the biggest games and the biggest moments.

Dak has a ways to go in that department. This year has been too much about himself and trying to prove “he can be the man.” Hopefully, the win against the Rams reinforces who this team is, and the way Dak needs to function in his role in order to help this team win and reach it’s goals

Was your same perception of Tony Romo, and Danny White?

He isn't all-world, but then again, how many of those really come along?

He has the drive and work ethic to improve, and his development is really encouraging.

He WANTS to win and he's a great leader - and that makes up for some of the physical limitations he may have.

I'm glad Dak is our QB.

To be honest we have been critical of his play versus good defenses only. He has handled the bottom 15 defenses very well so I didn't think was ever in debate. We weren't doubling down on those last 3-4 games but merely pointing out our critiques concerning those good defenses........and that why some of us were ecstatic that the run game was reintroduced putting less pressure on Dak and in my opinion making him more successful with his skill set. Its never been personal at all and never will be. My perfect scenario is to get a stout defense around him and keep the offensive line strong but that takes salary cap space.

I despised Dak a few seasons ago. He missed easy throw, looked terrified in the pocket and looked like a 4th round pick that should be a back up. Last year he improved but I wasn't sold on him, but I always was adamant that if he starts doing a few things better I could put up with him. This season I think Dak has taken a big step forward. He still misses behind receivers way too much and there is no way he is worth 40 million but I'm okay with him as the QB going forward.

The QB position could be worse and it could be better.

He won’t carry the team with his play but at the same time I feel he won’t torpedo the team, either.

I definitely wouldn’t pay him what he’s asking for but hey it ain’t my money.

I see Dak as a guy who, when he isn't depended on to carry the team, can be sufficient to meet our needs at times.
I still question why so many throws seem to be off target in year 4 as a starter. I think you could make a good argument that his habit of being late and behind on reads/throws has gotten worse over the past 18 months rather than better. He also has an uncanny knack for getting off the hook on terrible decisions/throws. He has an awful lot of giftwrapped picks dropped throughout the course of the season. More than most QB's

That said--he played a reasonably good game Sunday. With Zeke bearing the load, Dak was not the focal point and it seems to be a winning formula for the team. (Dak not having to carry the team on his arm but being more of a supplemental piece instead)

Therein lies the issue for me. Dak is expecting to be paid like a guy who is capable of carrying the team on his arm. He's demanding to be paid like he's the best QB in the league. No doubt in my mind, Dak is not that guy. And if he's going to insist on being paid like he is, then we need to move on.

count me in the camp that says time to look elsewhere. For a variety of reasons (skillset, cost, etc).
