Not everybody hated that defense.

Wade needs an odd combo: a disciplinarian flunkie. Not sure how many of those are out there.theogt;2582968 said:Yeah, that would be pretty stupid too. I honestly have no idea who he'd bring in, but honestly does it really even matter since there's likely no chance whatsoever that Wade's not going to be calling plays?
If there's not clause in Phillips' contract that states as much then wouldn't a demotion be the same as being fired-in which case he'd get his $3 mil regardless of whether he was DC or on the street!OAM;2582873 said:In this order for DC:
1. Wade Phillips
2. Dom Capers
3. Romeo Crennel
Everyone, don't tell me it's impossible for Wade to step down and become DC. Jerry is clearly calling the shots on the coaching staff right now and the Jets are the only 3-4 defense vacincy available right now. He'd sure as heck take that $3 million here to be a defensive coordinator. If he didn't accept being the DC then he terminates his own employment with the team. No one else out there is going to pay him $3 million a season and there's not many opportunities out there anyways.
Our D is significantly better and a whole lot more fun to watch. Is it good enough to hold up all year, to play well in December and January, to win a playoff game or two? That's another matter. Maybe -- with better special teams and a better offense.AbeBeta;2582848 said:That's exactly what the Wade hire was about -- is our D really better? Not really. But it is a hell of a lot more fun to watch. That is the real difference between the two systems. If Wade's D is better it is really more about the development of players Bill brought in then anything else.

Parcells doesn't have a coaching tree in terms of defense. It's Belichick's coaching tree. During the 80s, Belichick wrote the playbooks and called the plays. Belichick's defense isn't necessarily Parcell's defense. It's certainly more "schemed." If you remember, I think in Belichick's book he talks about Parcells *****ing about being to "scheme happy" and complicated. That was the real problem with Parcells' defense -- staying in a base 3-4 against 4 receiver sets.AbeBeta;2582833 said:People hated the Parcells defense when he was here. The difference between Parcells' defense from New Orleans '06 on, and Wade's defense is like night and day.AbeBeta;2583652 said:Let's see, under BP our defensive average ranking was 15.25 in points and 10th in yards. Under Wade, it has been 16.5 in points and 8.5 in yards.
Yeah. Huge difference. Certainly no evidence for "significantly" better.
Overall, yeah. But the numbers since Wade took over play calling are much better I imagine. And didn't the numbers under BP tail off toward the end?AbeBeta;2583652 said:Let's see, under BP our defensive average ranking was 15.25 in points and 10th in yards.
