I enjoyed this post as well Hostile. But for me, i dont think its the breaking down of the roster that gets me down. I have to say I think its the identity of the team that kind of worries me.

Allow me to explain, under Jimmy Johnson, we knew what the team was about, fast defense, balanced offense. You have it all on offense, and you had a well core defense to boot. Its hard to beat all season long.

Under Landry, you knew what the team could do and you know the team was good as a core. You could have maybe a team with 1 or 2 better players, but nothing as a core.

This team seems jumbled, for a better term. At one point, you have a better to average QB, but you dont know where to pit him. Hes very good when the plays break down, and hes very good to improvise, this will give your sideline gray hair in a hurry.

Can he be a great QB, possibly, but very gun slinger mentality that is always going to cost you later in the game.

Can he be the leader you want out of a QB. Here in lies another problem, Jason Witten, whos not only very very good on the field, how can you deny this guy off the field. Hes like a walking saint. Helping kids, to helping his community, to helping anyone walking down the street. How could you not look up to this guy on the field and say yeah, hes the face of the team and the guy other guys want to follow. IF you are a TE whos going to land behind Jason Witten on the depth chart, you are going to want to be traded, because he is a gentlemen off the field and a blood thirsty warrior on the field. You arent going to top this athelete.

We have finally landed a massive solid offensive line, and have now gathered the running backs to make it happen. The previous running backs have had something to be desired, TALENT.

So we go from the problem of having nothing since late Emmitt to holy crow how are we going to get all these guys involved. You have to have all the runners involved.

Our WR's have been very sporadic as well. Before Terrel Owens, we had a definte crop of solid number 2 receivers, and than 1 very good receiver and some hopefuls. Lets face it, Witten takes away from a number 2 receiver.
We truely are wishing for the days of Irvin and Harper.

Our Offensive line has been nothing but a shade of its former glory, to finally getting the mixed pieces to work very well. Although we wish for a younger Flozell Adams. This is really a huge part to your offense, you really need a stable line, and not just 1 star and a few people to look at him and wish they were that good.

I really think moving to the 3-4 was bad. While Zimmer was not a 3-4 coach, not his problem, but hes a much better 4-3 coach, than a 3-4 coach. That it took us a while to find a 3-4 coach, than make him Head Coach, to now be DC and HC. This could go really really bad if the season goes middle of the road.

Than we have a really really good CB, and that just makes the other guy get picked on. The decline of Roy Williams, to is Bradie James that good of a linebacker, to OMG they got Demarcus Ware. And opposite him, a decent Ellis whos to old and been needing a Demarcus Ware all his career. Now we are hoping Spencer can be the man to help Demarcus out. Our 7th round pick becomes stellar at NT. WHHHATT? Not only was it odd and a christmas gift, it works out really well.

Our pieces are better now, with Scandrick being a great find, and Choice being a wonderful surprise.

I could go on and on, but it may be more of a word jumble than anything else.

I dont think we have any one player you build around, we have just found a lot of great talent and its been heck getting them to all fall into place at the same time.

I hope this was worth reading. If not, at least a decent skim.

You and Judas are prob the worse. I dont believe your asinine question. You two are the kind that want to see the Cowboys have a failed season, just to prove a point.

I agree. Someone should hit the flush handle on this guy cause he seems to be a floater that just won't go down.

December fades and untimely turnovers by Tony Romo have taken him from unquestioned next great QB to perhaps our most controversial player now that Owens is gone.
Where's the opinion in that?

Two of our RBs were injured last year and our OC has not had an attack focused on Running the ball.

Once again runing the ball wasn't the main focus last year. Or do you forget the Commanders game where felixed hat zero carries. Oh I also recall MB3 and Felix being injured last year but I can't remember. I also recall that being Mb3 first year to be a featured back since HS and he gets hurt midway through the season. Yeah that's not a fact my bad.

The number one reason why teams could not double team Jason Witten was released.

Terrell Owens was the reason why Witten wasn't doubled because he always had safety help to his side. Except the 49ers game and we all know how that turned out.

False starts, age, high salaries, and no proven depth.

Flo gets paid a lot he's old and he also has a lot of false starts. Who going to come in if flo goes down?

Will Kosier be healthy? If he's not can Holland step in? Cory Proctor still lurks to kill the QB.

Proctor was hurt last year also. Who knows how he will be when he comes back. What about Holland who also got hurt. Yeah because proctor wasn't a free pass to the QB but whatever,

Shotgun snaps.

Gurode doesn't struggle in the shotgun that's news to me.

No changes on a staff that under achieved in 2008.

The offense underacheived greatly especially if you consider the year we had before last.

Neither are likely to be voted to the Pro Bowl. They are solid but unspectacular.

Spears is average at best and Olhanshaky is like Canty.

Opposite Ware is a crap shoot. Will Ellis continue to produce if he is even here? Will Spencer develop into the player we drafted him to be?

We don't know what we have on the other side of Ware.

Can we find someone to fill the other inside spot who isn't ancient?

The ILB we signed is old just like Zach.

Despite talent there is also youth and inexperience.

Our WR a young and inexperienced.

Injuries and lack of performance by backus in 2008 and an unknown commodity in newly acquired Gerald Sensabaugh.

How is this not a fact? RW went down. No one stepped up once he went do and we don't know what Sensabaugh will give us.

Even with Wade in charge, is this Defense good enough to carry this team if the Offense struggles?

Defense gave up 20+ points a game last year. Can't rely on our defense though. See ravens game and eagles game last year.

Coming off an injury.

Oh I'm sorry I must be mistaken McBriar isn't coming off of injury.

The Special Teams were so bad in 2008 that an entire Draft was focused on improving this area. Improvement depends on rookies stepping up.

Special teams were crap last year. Rookies impact this year will be on ST.

Everyone else just take off your blue and silver homer glasses for a second.

TLDR....

Pessimism: living with the idea that one's own arrogantly upheld negative opinions are self-appointed as facts thereby become facts which are indisputable and therefore not considered pessimism at all, but rather realism.

What the * ever.

LOL! That cracked me up.

It also cracks me up the people who feel the need to come in and tell people they have to stop being homers, or take off their homer glasses, or whatever other stupid remark comes up simply because they choose to not focus entirely on the negative of situations.

Apparently wanting to hope for some positives, and believing there is plenty to be positive about, makes a person a bad person. Wow.

Good post Hos. I agree with it from both sides and I do think that both sides of it are fair and interesting.

Nice post Hos, seems to sum up both sides of most issues very nicely.

Your recent stuff has been excellent.
