I was listening to Talkin' Cowboys today and Coach John called in and mentioned he felt one of the problems he thinks the offense has is too many option routes dependent on both the quarterback and receiver seeing the same thing.
I've never been a big fan of option routes.
I thought Tony Romo's Red Zone interception to Champ Bailey on a Miles Austin route was such a play.
Austin read it one way and went inside while Romo expected him to go outside.
Austin and Sam Hurd are young wideouts, Martellus Bennett is in only his second season and Roy Williams is in his first full season with the team.
Are we making the players "think" too much a lot of the time instead of just giving them a route and letting them play?
Is the offense too complex and is that why there are often issues lining up and getting the ball snapped before the play clock expires?
We wasted our first timeout early in the third quarter because of that and that hurt us badly at the end of the game.
Do we need to simplify things?
