i hope they sign odom, it would be great on two fronts

A) he doesnt go back to the lakers, where he is an important part of their championship aspirations.

B) it makes absolutely no sense for the mavs to sign him because they already have marion and howard.

Don't worry, it ain't happening anyway. I see Odom staying with the Lakers and getting a bigger paycheck.

but in all seriousness orlando is having a pretty good offseason so far. maybe dallas should go after odom? or try to get camby from the clippers. They need to get an upgrade over dampier though no matter what

The only thing with Camby is I believe his contract comes off the books next year, so the Clippers may just keep him. The Mavs do have Buckner's instant-expiring contract now, though, available in mid-September so there is a possibility it could happen a few months from now if LAC is desperate to shed salary.

Actually Damp's contract will be a HUGE asset next summer if they can hold onto him that long. They can effectively trade him straight up for up to over $16 M in salary and the other team can then opt of the contract and owe him nothing. It's like Stack's expiring contract on steroids.

The only way Damp can negate this clause is if he averages over 30 minutes per game in his top 70 games, meaning it counts only the 70 games he played the most minutes, or there is a zero percent chance Damp will ever get close to playing enough to meet that requirement.

Hopefully the front office plays it cool and picks up a quality C to throw into the rotation in the meantime, because they will need another big body.

2 guard is another big need. No way Josh Howard's ankles hold up a full season guarding opposing SG's.

I was really looking forward to Gortat, though. It would have been awesome to have a center who did not have cement blocks on his hands. And can actually jump.

I think the best thing the Mavs can do is sign the best big man available for the full MLE for just 1 season. Some possibilities are Chris Wilcox, Drew Gooden (hes UFA right?), and Ben Wallace just got bought out....

Our team is improved over last year, we just need to find a decent big man that can take Damps minutes this season. Stay away from Odom, please.
