He threw 2 picks, nearly 20 incomplete passes, and his turnovers contributed to his teams loss and you think he played well?

Well then in your eyes Romo must be God.

And Orlovski is a Warrior. The Big O severly sprained his thumb and is wearing a protective splint today. Team not releasing info on if he can go Wednesday in practice.

Nope

Bledsoe is not on that list, he played pretty good in 2005. He went to 14 NFL camps and won the starting job. He is 4-0 in beating out Romo and Brady :)

Romo still is god

I don't understand why everyone needs to put Orlovsky down when I'm willing to bet 80% of the board has never seen him play. While he'll never be a Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, he's a talented young QB who has earned a shot. I think that he'll prove to people that he deserves a place in this league, and that's not something that a lot of people in this world get to say. If Detroit decides to go in a different direction this offseason, which I think they will now that they have Culpepper and Stanton grooming for the job, why not bring him in to be a back-up at a reasonable price? I don't know about you guys, but I don't think it's acceptable that we don't have a back-up QB who can at least manage the offense. A guy like Orlovsky or godforbid Rex Grossman, would at least be able to make the throws an NFL QB needs to make, and would probably excell with all the weapons we have.

Don't dismiss Orlovsky simply because he plays for the Lions. That's stupid logic. Sure it's a pathetic franchise, but that's not his fault. Management has completely prevented that team from making any forward progress. Had Romo been a Lion, you guys would've laughed at him too. I think as fans we're often too hard on players, especially undeserving ones. I guess I'm just getting softer as I'm maturing, but I just can't get mad at guys who go out there and give an honest effort. If the results show they don't have the talent to play, that's fine, but why is everyone jumping on this guy before seeing what he can really do?

A Possible Change Under Center

With Orlovsky Hurt, the Lions May have a New Quarterback Next Week Against Jacksonville
By Chrissie Wywrot
Detroitlions.com
November 3, 2008

Marinelli will wait to see how the week plays out before making a quarterback decision.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- As the Detroit Lions head into the second half of their season, Head Coach Rod Marinelli will look at these next eight games as a fresh start and that may include a new starting quarterback.

Fourth-year quarterback Dan Orlovsky, who started his fourth-career game for the Lions Sunday at Chicago, suffered a thumb sprain during the game that could keep him from playing this week.

“We’ll wait and see how the week goes out,” said Marinelli. “I think it would be foolish on my part to tell our opponent who’s going to be our starting quarterback.”

Orlovsky has continued to improve as Detroit’s starting quarterback, finishing Sunday’s game 28-of-47 for 292 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Orlovsky made self-professed mistakes that he wishes he could have had back, but is also experiencing the growing pains of being an NFL quarterback in a live-game environment for the first time in his career.

“It’s easy to sit here on paper and say, ‘Okay, if it’s this coverage, you’re going to throw here,’” said Orlovsky. “Then you can look at the guy the whole time and guys are good in this league – they’re going to jump stuff.

“So really (I’m improving on) just using your eyes, body position, everything that goes along with being a quarterback and you see the progression being made.”

Orlovsky is approaching this week as he would any week, knowing that the decision of who starts Sunday against Jacksonville will be left up to the coaching staff and administration.

“I’m not going to sit here to the media and sell myself,” said Orlovsky. “The people who need to make those decisions will make them and my mindset will not change.”

If Orlovsky doesn’t start, there is the possibility of second-year quarterback Drew Stanton getting the call or veteran quarterback Daunte Culpepper, who Marinelli announced yesterday has agreed to terms with the Lions pending a non-orthopedic physical.

“They’re trying to get (the physical) done this afternoon – he comes in early this afternoon,” said Marinelli on Monday. “It’ll either be this afternoon finishing up, or tomorrow morning.”

Stanton, who missed all of last year with a knee injury and then missed the second half of the preseason with a sprained thumb, is taking things day-by-day when it comes to the possibility of bringing a new quarterback into Detroit.

“I think to a certain point (I get frustrated with not having an on-field opportunity), but my time hasn’t come,” said Stanton.

“So I can’t sit around and worry about that type of stuff and worry about myself. I’ve got to try to put the team in front, and that’s what I’ve done all along – my whole life – and my role on this team has been to try to help Dan as much as I can and put us in a position to be successful.”

Currently, Culpepper has only agreed to terms with the team, but once he signs Marinelli and the staff see him as a veteran who may have the ability to help this team in the latter half of the season.

“Anytime you can really add a really good football player, and obviously he has been that, (you try to),” said Marinelli. “(He’s) an aware guy, a quality guy, and I don’t know how you close your eyes to a player like that.”

For Marinelli, bringing in Culpepper gives Detroit the opportunity to get better this year – something he wants to do for this team.

He doesn’t want to surrender the Lions’ final eight games, but instead wants to see how much better the team can get this year. Whether that’s with an improving Orlovsky, an emerging Stanton or a fresh face in Culpepper, Marinelli plans to continue pressing on.

“In this league when you can get better – you think you can get better – you’re crazy not to,” said Marinelli. “Anytime you have an opportunity to bring a player in and improve – just like (fullback Moran) Norris that came in – he came in out of nowhere, off the street for us. (He) learned the system in a week (and) went out and started at fullback for us.

“(The) week before, special teams, (he) came in and took off. We might have found a really good player, because there are good players out there right now. Different coaches know these guys, so to me it’s a work in progress of trying to improve this team everyday – trying to get it better.”

As the current starter and No. 2 quarterback, Orlovsky and Stanton are going to continue preparing how they have been preparing – as though they are starting each week.

“I’ll be completely honest: I think I could be really good,” said Orlovsky. “I love being out there with these guys; these guys know what they’re going to get out of me as a quarterback – not only Sundays, but Monday through Saturday.”

Stanton would also like the opportunity to compete now, but is taking this situation for what it is and will adjust as he has to.

“I would like to compete now, I think I’ve been brought along and done some different stuff,” said Stanton. “We’re in the middle of our season right now, so as far as I’m concerned Dan is still our starting quarterback.”

Marinelli is simply going to do what he can to give Detroit the best-possible opportunity to win on Sundays.

“For every lineman, linebacker (and) offensive lineman that go out and work, I owe those men every opportunity to win a game,” said Marinelli. “To do whatever it takes, to find whatever players out there – and not for anybody else, I could care less what anyone else thinks. What matters to me is I see an offensive guard or tackle (whose hand is) all blown up working, defensive guys hustling.

“I owe them to get the very best players in here that we can get to give us a chance in the second half of the season to get something going, and that’s what I’m going to do.”

To understand why people are putting him down you simply need to look at the thread starter. His agendas (and make no mistake about it, this is one) are like nails on a blackboard. He feels like no one pays attention to him so he makes inane and obtuse comments in threads that are irrelevant to his agendas. He thinks people care about his ideas so he keeps thumping his chest like he actually knows what he is talking about. The echo is somehow musical to him.

Dan Orlovsky is a solid NFL backup QB that has shown flashes of being a starting NFL QB. Been following his career since circa 2002 and posted about it in 2003/04 era.

He also played high school in the same football conferene I played in back in CT. Good to see him make it to the top of his profession. It's that simple.

I wish we had a kid like this on our roster. Not Brad Johnson or Brookslinsaviour.

Lions QB Dan Orlovsky has strained thumb; severity debated

By CARLOS MONARREZ • FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER • November 3, 2008

Lions quarterback Dan Orlovsky sustained a strained thumb in his throwing had on the first play of Sunday’s 27-23 loss at Chicago, but he said the injury did not affect his performance and he took a painkiller at halftime.

Orlovsky is wearing a removable cast on his hand and is considered day-to-day. He said he had “zero” doubt that he could play Sunday when the Lions host Jacksonville.

But citing unidentified sources, foxsports.com reported that Orlovsky will miss "the next few weeks, and perhaps even longer," because of the injury.

Buzz up!

Football players don't always flash toothy smiles for media guide photos.

Especially if they play for the Detroit Lions.

Dan Orlovsky did this year.

And guess what?

The fourth-year pro quarterback, who never started an NFL game until three weeks ago, is still smiling. Never mind that Detroit lost a fourth-quarter lead and fell 27-23 to the Bears on Sunday. Forget that the Lions still haven't won a game this season.

And, oh, Detroit has agreed to terms on a contract with Daunte Culpepper, who could end up replacing Orlovsky behind center.

"I had a ton of fun today," Orlovsky insisted. "That was the most fun I've had playing ball in a long time. I absolutely love playing for this team, and I know we're 0-8.

"But I will hang my hat on the line every week with these guys. I was telling some of those guys that I know we came up on the wrong end - and that's the bottom line - but I love playing with those guys up front. I absolutely love it."

Orlovsky was loving it most in the first half. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound QB threw touchdown passes of 17 yards to Calvin Johnson and 14 yards to Shaun McDonald, as the Lions stunned the Bears with 23 second-quarter points. While the Lions didn't score in the second half, Orlovsky finished with 292 passing yards (28 of 47).

"I see improvement with him every week," said Johnson, the second pick overall in the 2007 draft, who caught 8 passes for 94 yards. "He's taking control of the huddle. I think he makes some good throws every time he gets in there. He's doing a good job."

Detroit had a chance to pad its lead early in the fourth, but Bears rookie safety Craig Steltz intercepted Orlovsky's intended pass for Johnson at the goal line.

"I just completely did what I wasn't supposed to do," Orlovsky said. "We called the play that (McDonald) scored on. Calvin had a skinny post. I thought I could move Steltz and get the ball to Calvin. Mike (Furrey) was wide open on the sideline. I just tried to do too much."
