STANTON THROWS A TD FOR LIONS

There’s been a Drew Stanton sighting in Detroit.
Daunte Culpepper got the start for the Lions and the results have been mixed: He threw an early interception but also threw some nice passes to march the Lions down the field late in the first quarter.
But then, with the Lions having first-and-goal from the 3-yard line, Culpepper came out and was replaced by Stanton, apparently because Culpepper hasn’t had time to practice in the goal-line package. Whatever the reason, it worked: After a handoff got the Lions to the 1-yard line, Stanton threw the first pass of his career, and it was caught by tight end John Owens for a touchdown. (It was also the first touchdown of Owens’ carer.)
Overall, Culpepper has completed two of four passes for 78 yards. The Lions lead the Jaguars 7-3.

CULPEPPER INTERCEPTED ON FIRST SERIES
Posted by Michael David Smith on November 9, 2008, 1:14 p.m.
Daunte Culpepper is fitting right in with the Lions: He’s getting off to a bad start.
Detroit has routinely fallen behind by large margins in the first quarter on the way to starting the season 0-8, and Culpepper, the Lions’ new starting quarterback, contributed to it happening again.
On the Lions’ third offensive play, Culpepper threw a bad pass over the middle that was intercepted by Jaguars cornerback Rashean Mathis, setting up the Jaguars to start the game in great field position at the Lions’ 23-yard line. Although the Lions’ defense stiffened and kept the Jaguars from gaining a first down, Jacksonville still kicked a field goal to go up 3-0 early.
It’s worth noting that both of Culpepper’s two passes on the first drive were intended for wide receiver Calvin Johnson. Adam Schefter of NFL Network reported today that Culpepper is already raving about Johnson, saying, “That’s a special dude. I’ve never seen anything like this kind of guy.”
As for Culpepper, Charley Casserly reported on CBS today that by throwing five touchdown passes or playing a full game this season, Culpepper can earn a $1 million bonus. We’ve heard conflicting numbers and are tracking down the details.
