Broaddus just tweeted that Orton was a no show at this mornings practice at Minicamp. Details to follow I'm sure...

Say hello to Brandon Weeden as your number 2, but we knew that already.

dont cut him ,maximum fine him

Management is clearly going to let this play out into training camp next month. He can be fined 30K per day for each
day he misses. Eventually, he can be suspended for games and miss game checks for conduct detrimental to the
team. They are not going to let him pull a "Ratliff" and let this grow like a virus.

Norm Hitzges was just talking about this. Saying if Orton doesn't want to be here, rather retire, or more likely rather play for another team.
Orton will accumilate about $1.5 million in fines. So maybe the Cowboys should say, fine, pay us the $1.5 million now, and release him, instead of playing out this game.

I say screw him, fine him, still get the money, so he can't go to another team. And then maybe a QB gets injured, and they work a trade.

Bummer, but not a surprise. I do wonder what his end game is, though.

This is one of those things that's going to drive fans crazy but that I expect has little actual effect on how the team prepares for the season. We've replaced him on the roster, and won't deal with anything until and unless he comes into camp. The rest is just fines and haggling over the balance of the contract in the background.

I do wonder what's going on in Orton's head, though. This is fairly bizarre behavior given his lack of leverage and lack of alternatives.

At this point in time, the best case scenario would be for Orton to retire, pay back the roughly $6M he owes the Cowboys ($3M in salary and $3M in bonus money), and we use the money toward signing OT Smith or WR Bryant long term.

It appears that Orton is comtemplating retiement and leaning that way. If so, great. Just make a decision soon. If Orton is playing games and wants his release, forget about it. If Orton wants a trade, I'd be willing to consider it especially for a LB.

Keep him and fine him, and when a team needs a QB during training camp work out a trade. But cutting him is just giving him what he wants. After that game in Philly last year, he is prolly think he can still play for another team this year.

Norm asked Goose Gosselin what his opinion was. Goose really didn't know, but was leaning toward, Orton is done, he just doesn't want to play football anymore.
He questioned a few things. Why he would take a contract to come here to back up a QB that is older than him, as opposed to go start for another team.
And you need to ask, why was he released from 3 other teams, after being replaced as a starter. Including being replaced by Tebow.

This is my thought as well. Keep fining him until he shows up, document everything, and trade him if possible when a team needs a QB. If no team comes calling, suspend him if possible or cut him on the last day when it is unlikely he will find what he is looking for. The team holds the cards now but when its time to finalize the 53, they cannot hold a spot for him.

I don't get why he would play for another team...if anything, he may have a chance in Dallas given Tony's health questions...to me, he is trying to work the system, collect a paycheck and NOT pay back any money that he likely already spent....

fine him for every day missed, every activity blown off, every time it is his turn to buy the beer....everything....don't cut him until all of the other 31 teams are set, then cut him if he still doesn't show...

Goose also mentioned a Reserve / did not report list, or something like that. Put him on that, keep fining him.

Can we get some clarity on how much SB he'd have to pay back? He got 5 million. He's played here for 2 years. So it would seem strange that we could get 3 mill back. As this is the final year of his deal, seems like 1.33 mill would be the amount he'd realistically owe us.

Why on earth would he want to play for another team? He's got a 3.25 mill base salary here. He could play out the year here and get a decent 2 mill + deal for years to come holding clipboards.
