Unless the dude goes 25 for 25, with some game winners, I really doubt it.

There is zero chance of a kicker winning the ORotY. Zero.

OK, then...how about the Bucs GM getting DotY ("Doofus of the Year") for moving up in the second round to draft him?

Never going to happen.

And the Bucs are crazy for taking a kicker in the second round. He'd better have a Vinatieri-type career to justify such an awful pick.

You think the Raiders would want a redo picking Janikowski in the first round? What a ma-roon!

I agree. Zack Martin was the most dominant offensive rookie to come out in a long time.

For a linemen, yes but Odell was still insane that year. Usually rookie workouts take a few years to develop, such as Dez or even Irvin but Odell played like one of the best at his position almost immediately without even having a proper training camp under his belt.

Picking Kickers high is never a good idea, in my opinion. Oakland took Janikowski in the 1st, and he's been pretty awful most of his career. The Jets took Mike Nugent in the 2nd, and he's been average at best.

Martin was the best and played like an all pro his rookie year. He most yes deserved rookie of the year over Beckham

I love Martin as much as the next one but Odell had over 1300 yards and 12 touchdowns in 13 games as a rookie at a very hard position to learn in the NFL. As much as Martin deserved rookie of the year, Odell deserved it more for his record breaking rookie year.

I'm sure some may not agree but if Odell fell to us, I would've selected him over Martin. An elite receiver is just more impactful than an elite guard.

Martin had a more dominate rookie season then Odell. He was also a big reason for 12-4 and paving the way for leading rusher and offensive player of the year.

While Odell had nice stats as a rookie giants were a terrible team that was in tons of shoot outs and was forced the ball most all game.

The only way I could ever see this happening is if there was a guy with enough leg that he was putting 3 points on the board when everyone else was punting. He'd have to be decently accurate from a distance nobody has ever made a kick from before.

even if that were the case, would still should not be offensive rookie of the year. create special teams rookie of the year if you want, but that's like saying if a defender scored 10 TDs they should get OROY votes. they aren't offensive players.

Except it's not like that because such a defender has an award he would win.

I guess you could create an award, but why?

You'd be creating an award for basically a 1-time use. There are few rookie special teamers who do so much that an annual award is warranted.

If a rookie WR set the record for single season PR and KR TDs, but only had modest WR stats, what should he win? By all accounts it was his special teams play that won him the award.

I don't see any point in creating awards for the sake of preserving some sense of appropriateness for a given position or positional group.

Any kicker who accomplished what I think it would take for consideration would be deserving of OROY, IMO.
