Signed by Cowboys Osa re-signs

I think it was a fair-to-both-sides deal, I think he would've got more if he didn't get franchised and left.
 
If you look at DT free agents then he is easily in the top 3 if not the best. And at 26-turning 27 he is still getting better. DT's play well into their 30's and it's a 4 year deal so should be getting his prime. Really good DT's just don't hit FA so unless we wanted a nobody playing next to Mazi this year it was the right move.

Yeah, at 280m$ salary cap, 20m$ for a plus starter at DT is an appropriate deal

This is a good 1st step. I think that they sign Lewis. They will sign a linebacker, maybe Nick Bolton and I think they could sign Wil Hernandez. It's looking like they are spending money. This is the 1st step.

They still probably draft 2 dtackles and 2 running backs because the draft is strong at these positions.

Seems like a lot of people here wanted Milton.....But I believe osa will out play his new contract, Guy is still young and has another year under his belt.

These signings would all be solid tbh. I'm not saying it would give us a Super Bowl or even playoff (that will come down to how the team performs on the field) roster, but I'm just saying with what we have to work with in free agency these moves make sense. Also would love to see us going after a safety. A few really good guys at the top. Even a Jeremy Chinn would bring speed and physicality.

$20M a year is a little under what was being projected, but the guaranteed amount is more than expected so essentially his cap hit will be a little less each year, but you probably wont have an out on the contract until year 3. As far as DTs go this puts him #14 in AAV, #18 in % of the cap. Both of those seem very reasonable for his production. Hes 9th in guaranteed money at DT which feels slightly high to me, but I'm sure that was the trade off to get him down to $20M per year.

Most importantly though it keeps him off the franchise tag which would have killed any hope for the Cowboys doing anything in free agency.

did they say how we came up with this money to sign a deal, did they do any restructuring with contracts to free up space

I've been critical of re-signing OSA for $21 million, and I am not thrilled with giving him $20 million, but I guess I am okay with it. I was thinking more in the $17 million range, but $20 million is better than the $21.5 that was rumored. Like others have said, hopefully this does not preclude the Cowboys from drafting at least 2 more DTs in this DT deep draft. I hope the Cowboys aren't thinking they can sign Osa then go get someone like Watkins and Joseph again.

They need to draft another NT type and another 3T because it is likely Mazi is not going to get his 5th year option or play like a 1st round pick.
