Thank goodness the stupid Grammy's are over. Onto a real award show, the Oscars!

http://oscars.movies.yahoo.com/nominees

My Picks:

Best Picture
I'm pretty sure Avatar will win best picture, but I really think it should go to Pixar's Up.

Best Director
It should go to Cameron for best director, say what you want about the plot of the movie but it takes some damn good direction to bring all those pieces together and have it look credible. Plus they invented some ground breaking techniques in film making.

Best Actress
I'm sure Bullock will win for Blindside which is fine but it wasn't all that good a film really or a demanding role. I'd give it to Meryl Streep for her dead on portrayal of Fairchild in Julie and Julia. I actually forgot she was Meryl Streep in that movie several times, last time that happened for me was Jamie Fox in Ray.

Best Actor
Easily goes to Jeff Bridges, love the guy and great movie.

Best Supporting Actor
Christoph Waltz should win best supporting actor for Inglorious Basterds, he was amazing.

Best Supporting Actress

Best supporting actress should go to Mo'Nique for Precious.

Your picks?

I really dislike all of these award shows. I even go to the CMAs and don't like it. I mean the music is good and all but the self aggrandizing back slapping that goes on behind the scenes is nauseating.

IMO, I think Streep is far and away the best, most versatile actress on the planet. In the universe? No so much! :laugh2:

Exactly, not faulting those who enjoy these award shows just never saw the appeal of watching people break their own arms to pat themselves on the back. I love music and movies just as much as the next guy but i don't really care if a movie or song I like wins an award.

Oh I don't really care either, but I like to see the smaller movies get some props. I don't care if Avatar wins but if a smaller film that I enjoyed a lot gets some respect, I enjoy that. I'd say I'm more of a film person than a music person anyway.

By the time Academy Award best picture nominations roll out, I will have already seen two-thirds or three-fourths of the films tabbed. Not this year.

TEN nominees?? That's great. I will try and fit in An Education, The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds, A Serious Man, Up and Up in the Air between now and the show.

Thankfully, I already have Avatar, The Blind Side, District 9 and Precious out of the way. :) ( Bold--> my Cowboyszone avatar sported both of these movies during the past year. :D )

The Hurt Locker was very good. Pretty unique to Hollywood since they usually try and make the US Military seem to be the fount of all evil in the world.

Happy for District 9, The Hurt Locker, Precious, Basterds, Avatar and The Blind Side. I saw all of those movies and enjoyed them all.

Kind of a down year for Best Picture.

Up wasn't very good.

Pretty crappy list this year, in a lot of categories.

Avatar doesn't deserve to be nominated for anything other than technical awards, the rest are a joke (I'm almost surprised it didn't get a best original screenplay nod).

No Transformers for visual effects....stupid. I know critics hate Bay, but it's still the most impressive visuals of the year, and ILM deserves the credit for their work. I hope District 9 wins that category now as it was also easily better than Avatar in that department.

The Blindside was a decent movie, but certainly not best movie material, and I still can't figure out how Bullock is nominated. She was good and all, but nothing spectacular.

Up had 15 great minutes, and the rest was crap. Such an overrated movie.

Not understanding exactly how The Hurt Locker got a nod for best screenplay. The dialogue was good I guess, but there really was no story there.

Agreed...if he does not win than it would be a travesty.

Go see the film and her performance. If you haven't seen the film then your comment is silly. She is most likely going to win. How can you say none of the other nominees aren't deserving. Have you seen every film that was nominated?

Talk about an excellent opening to that movie. I had never heard of Christophe before I saw the movie, but my goodness what an incredible performance. "WAIT for the cream!!"
