Talk about an excellent opening to that movie. I had never heard of Christophe before I saw the movie, but my goodness what an incredible performance. "WAIT for the cream!!"

His slow verbal torture of the French farmer in Scene 1 was mesmerizing.

Good calls, Count!

I had Cameron pegged for either Best Picture or Best Director, not both, but the amount of money he's making the industry is sure to carry a lot of weight. Plus, he's championing a technique that can't (yet) be replicated at home. The writing for Avatar was pretty weak, compared to Cameron's previous work, which was often very good. I hope he doesn't end up like Lucas.

I thought UP was the best picture of the year. (Take that  Theogt, Childsplay! ;) ). It won't compete though; it's in for an award in the animation ghetto.

Christoph Waltz was amazing, and I hope he picks one up. Kinda hoping T-Bone Burnett/Bridges get nabbed for some of the song/music oscars.

Precious is not my usual sort of movie, haven't seen it, but a lot of people seem to be impressed.

It will be a "low" point in Oscar's history if Avatar takes home the Best Film Award.

Not even sure why it is nominated, it just had good special effects and very little substance.

What a great scene.

He was easily the best part of that movie.

I was reading on wiki that Quintin originally wanted Leonardo DiCaprio for the role

ugh, that would have been stale

It's about the money....and there is lots of that for this movie. It's not like the Oscars haven't gone to really bad choices before. Titanic beat out LA Confidential, didn't it? Lots of other errors in retrospect as well.

What's wrong with Titanic beating LA Confidential? LA Confidential was dull and completely undeserving of a nomination to begin with. It still amazes me that Kim Bassinger was nominated for that movie....that has to be the biggest joke in Oscar history.
