OT: DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket question

Which is actually cool, until you fill up your card with too many movies....: No way I'm hooking up that land-line now.:D
And we don't even want to know what type of movies ;)

I hear the rain comment alot, but it rains alot here in Atlanta and I rarely lose reception...its only during the worst storms/torrential rains that it happens, and even then its only out for a few seconds

as for the landline, while they claim you MUST have it hooked up to a landline (not only for Tivo but for PPV and Sports packages) its really not true...I have a landline but it isnt connected and hasnt been for a long time

I know what you mean, I have both DTV and cable (for the modem) and I while I lose Directv more often it's never more than a minute. The cable will be out for hours and hours at a time.

While DirecTv will automatically renew your subscription, if you did not get the early bird package last year you may want to this year. I did renew early myself this year (only my second year also) and it is going to save me about $50 VS simply letting them renew my rates from last year.

The only bad part about the ticket now is that if the game in your region is running late, and the Cowboys are the 4:00 game, you will not see the Cowboys game until the early game is over. The NFL and the National TV companies complained about losing audience and advertising dollars because people were switching to the game they actually wanted to watch versus being forced to see the end of the early game.

Yeah, did that happen last year at the end of the Rams-Texans OT game?

Everytime it happens I get furious.

I have dishnetwork, but couldn't Hos order two dual tuner receivers to hook up to his four tvs? That way he only has to pay the extra $5 on one reciever versus $15 for three extra.

As mentioned before, he can use a splitter and hook up one receiver to all four tv's. But that would only allow him to watch the same program over all tv's.

But for some reason, the satellite signal doesn't travel well across lengthy cords and cables. I think they sell satellite signal enhancers for running long wires and cables across the house.

Do I need to place another order in for the Sunday Ticket, or do they automatically reassign it to me?

They automatically renew, Eddie. And in case of a price increase, they should be renewing at a lower rate.

But either last year or the previous, still months before the season started, we weren't getting the 'you are authorized for this package' message on the Sunday Ticket sunscriber channel, and mass panic ensued. Turns out there was a glitch...but there must have been a record set for hysterical calls. :D

BTW, the Sunday Ticket isn't going to entitle you to any preseason game..but the NFL Network will bring them all right to ya, live or in tape delay.

Can't wait!

That used to be a problem, until last season. Now if a game overlaps like that, the late game will be unblocked on the Sunday Ticket channel during the first half. You just have to switch to the local channel at halftime.

I was actually reading into it last night, and prices went up for the package.

Last year Superfan was $99, then dropped to $49, but is listed as $99 again. The normal package is like $239 right now, could have sworn it was less last year. I've had it for like 5-6 years now.

My two cents on DTV...

Last year was my first year with DTV, I previously had cable for over 20 years...I didn't want to switch to DTV for fear of bad reception when it rained (I live in far Northern California) because we get a lot of rain here...over 60 inches this winter...only lost reception a few times for a total of maybe two minutes, at most.

We had a huge storm with winds clocked at over 90 mph and lost power for 4 days...I just hooked into the generator and turned on DTV and watched TV with great reception, while my neighbors were living in the dark with no power.

I have 5 TVs all hooked up to DTV, 2 of them on Tivo boxes, with the HBO package I'm paying a total of $90 bucks...I was paying $120/month for the same package with cable and they don't offer NFL Network or NFL Sunday ticket.

If you don't have the NFL channel you are missing out in a big, big way, if you're an NFL fan.

And if you don't have the NFL Sunday Ticket and don't normally receive Cowboys games, it will change your life for the better...I'm serious!

With Tivo I recorded and saved all 4 preseason games and all regular season games and watch them every week in the offseason...it makes the offseason bearable!

My advice: Order Directv today!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats not what I was talking about. Dishnetwork has receivers that have two separate tuners which allow you to hook up two tvs to one receiver so you can watch different channels. My brother has one dual tuner with pvr on his living room and bedroom and a regular dual tuner receiver hooked up to two tvs in his kids rooms. That way he only has to pay an additional fee on one extra receiver. I don't know if directv does this yet, but would think they would need to compete.

As far as I know they do not. You get one receiver per room/TV unless you use a splitter coming out of the box, but then you are watching the same channel no matter how many sets you run off of that splitter.

Not sure about the tuners, but I'm pretty sure DirecTV only allows one received per set. I have one upstairs ... barely use it, but it's worth the extra $5.

Mom and dad have Dishnetwork, mainly for the Asian language packages.

I just want my football.

Mine went out even if it was a small shower. I never did like where the guy installed it. It's in the line of sight of several large trees.

thats was probably more of the issue then, because if you have a higher signal strength you wont get that...mines always at 95 or higher on clear days...

I don't have that problem now. I switched to cable about a year ago.

I might be way off here, but DirecTV doesn't need to do much to "compete" with ANY service (DISH or cable). DTV has stepped up to the plate in a big way to outperform all other avenues of television. Cable and DISH were completely up in arms when DirecTV outbid them both (again) for NFL Sunday Ticket (I believe the bid was in the multi billion dollar range for the next 6-7 years). They have the lock on TIVO (which for anyone whose ever used another DVR after using TIVO knows that it's just plain inferior), They were the first to offer the NFL channel (at no additional charge, mind you) and are in the process of adding HD local channels at an alarming rate. The HD package is expanding by 5-6 more channels by the end of the year (and anyone who has watched the NBA playoofs in HD on TNT or ESPN, or the Discovery HD channel will tell you with extreme delight what an amazing television experience it is).

Not to dump on anyone who is still tied to the ol' cord, but if you are still using cable (unless you absolutely have no other option) you are living in the dark ages and being gouged for it. I compared package prices for the same set up I have with DirecTV with my local cable company, and I would be paying close to $170.00 a month for all the channels I get from DTV for @ $120.00. Now, mind you I have all the premium channels, sports package, Playboy channel, locals, and the HD package (toss in Sunday Ticket) and it's a no brainer. That price includes one HD TIVO in the Living room, one TIVO in the our bedroom, one TIVO in the kids' TV room, and another receiver in our daughter's bedroom, it also includes insurance to cover any damages incurred by lightning, wind, etc.

When I told that to the cable rep over the phone and asked what they could do to match, there was about a 3 second pause and finally the guy said "There is no way I can come close to matching that for that price" (even though I had no intention of switching in the first place just wanted to win an arguement with a friend, who also, by the way, is still living in the dark ages).

To top it off, when you are a DirecTV customer you get "attaboys" from the company after being a loyal customer for a couple of years. Case in point: When I ordered my HD TIVO and the extra one for the kids' TV room I called a CSR and told them to connect me a retention representative (remember this for all of you who have DirecTV and don't know this little trick. A retention rep has a lot more pull and discretion than a regular customer service guy) I told them that I wanted to get an HD TIVO and the package , but wasn't sure if I could afford to swing the extra charge on my bill. "No problem" she says "here's what I can do, I will send you a form for a $200.00 (original sales price $649.00) rebate on the purchase of the HD Tivo (will record 250 hours of standard definition programming or 30 hours of HD programming), we'll give you the other Tivo (70 hours of recording time) for the price of shipping ($14.95), I'll credit your account $100.00 and we'll give you $6.00 off the price of your premium package channels for the next six months (50%off X 3) and you can have the HD package for free for the next six months and well waive the installation fee ($99.00). Will that help?" Uhhhhhhhhhh.......yeah. GREAT! Lo and behold I sent the rebate form back in about three weeks ago, got my check last week ($200.00 cha ching) , and to top it off, I got another $100.00 check from DirecTV the following day. I called and asked if the extra $100.00 check was some kind of mistake, the rep told me it was just a simple thank you from DirecTV for being a loyal customer and for making another two year commitment to DirecTV (been a customer since 99).

Man, you could only DREAM of getting that kind of treatment from DISH or cable. Sorry guys, but if you're with anyone but DirecTV you're totally missing the boat.
