We never tired of making fun of the various post-"retirement" exploits of former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Freddie Mitchell, but a reader from Indiana tops them all with a story (and picture) he sent in over the weekend. Here's the tale:

I was at home this past weekend in Mishawaka, IN, and my brother told me that over the summer Freddie Mitchell was a substitute teacher at Mishawaka High School. Supposedly the woman who was his kid's mother lives in town, and he needed some extra money. He lasted all of one week, due to the fact that he was caught asking girls for their phone numbers. My brother thinks he's still in northern Indiana somewhere, presumably subbing somewhere else.

I've attached a picture from the halls of MHS. I guess he wore his NFC Championship ring around as well.

This year's been pretty good... but Freddie Mitchell becoming even more of a national joke would make it absolutely perfect.

I'm not defending that one! But realistically, have you seen some of these "so-called" under aged girls. It's dead wrong! No excuse for any such behavior coming from any civil-minded mature adult man. Now I'm at a disadvantage about the facts surrounding this incident, but ...

...at a glance, some of these under aged girls look like fully developed women. To make matters worse, these tender aged females give the Impression that they are older than they really are. STOP! I am not trying to justify, nor am I making any allowances for any advances made toward fully developed under aged girls. But I am sayIng that this younger generation of girls (not across the board), must take ownership for the way they dress, the way they conduct themselves, and their availability and exposure to situations that place them In these types of situations to be approached by men.

Now, to answer your question ...NOT Necessarily! Again, I don't know all of the circumstances behind the "under aged phone number" situation ...I'm sure you do. But his action alone does Not place him necessarily in that category of "scum." Child molesters, statutory rape convicted felons ...all of that ...YES!

Now, even if you disagree, and you do have an argument (depending on the facts that I do not have about this situation), he should be classified as scum who needs help ...mental health related wraparound services for his illness. Not made "homeless" or introduced to drugs!

Yes you are. If you were not you wouldn't have said that. The Jerk knows these girls are under age, he' teaching them at their school. If this was going on at a club that didn't allow under age, and they were there, it might be different.

SPINNING? That's exactly what you're doing with your post! I could not have made myself more clear in saying that I was not privy to all of the information surrounding this one situation.

Yet, I stand about underaged girls taking responsibility for the way they dress, the way they conduct themselves (in some instances provocatively)!

Now, if what You say is correct, I still say that Mitchell may need some psychiatric counseling for his urge and attraction toward under aged girls. But I Hope you Understand that scenario that you cited ... is miles away from the point I was making - especially in lught of this developing teahcer-student relationship information you've just unleashed on me.

Do I wish him to be homeless or on drugs? No! But regardless of how some females dress underage or not, it does not giva ANY man the right to make his own conclusions about why she chooses to wear certain clothing. Asking for phone #s of underaged girls could be understandable as an honest mistake under different circumstances.. But the story does imply that this was at a high school where he was a substitute teacher. There is really no way to think that if you are teaching some high school student to think that he thought they were older, regardless of their appearance. If they are students, there is no way to really think they aren't minors.
