Asking for phone #s of underaged girls could be understandable as an honest mistake under different circumstances.. But the story does imply that this was at a high school where he was a substitute teacher. There is really no way to think that if you are teaching some high school student to think that he thought they were older, regardless of their appearance. If they are students, there is no way to really think they aren't minors.

Exactly... it doesn't even matter if they were all 18 or 19... he's their TEACHER for pete's sake!
