The Detroit Lions haven't had a winning record since 2000 and haven't won 10 games since 1995. That's all going to change in 2007, according to quarterback Jon Kitna.

Appearing on WDFN-AM in Detroit on Thursday, Kitna predicted that the Lions will win more than 10 games this season. The Lions were 3-13 in 2006.
In March, Kitna said the Lions would win 10 games in 2007, but after seeing the team's schedule he adjusted his prediction -- higher.
"I'll keep to myself what I think we actually will win. But it's more than 10 games," Kitna said.
Part of the reason for Kitna's optimism is Calvin Johnson, the team's first-round draft pick.
"I don't like putting a lot of pressure on people, but Calvin Johnson, to me, will have about the same impact that Reggie Bush had in New Orleans," Kitna said. "He's everything that they said he was and more."

Does he think he is playing more than 10 games against us in Dallas?

;)

I found this humorous, to say the least. While I do think the NFC North, outside of Chicago, sucks... I don't think Detroit wins 10. I could see them possibly at .500 if things go their way. They have a talented DT tandem in Rogers/Redding. And their LBers are young and athletic (and need to stay healthy).

I don't know about 10 games but what surprises me about the Lions is that they are not winning more games. I think they have some very good talent on that team but just can't seem to put it together.

Agreed.

Redding/Rogers is a very nice DT tandem. White is a solid DE. Their LBers are young and athletic. Sims is a real good OLB. The talent at WR is well known. But their RB core is pretty good too, with Jones, Bell, Duckett, and Calhoun.

If their OL plays better and Kitna can cut down on his mistakes...this team could make a quick turnaround.

They seem like a franchise who just does not know how to win. They have had their share of talent over the years but just can't find the HC to help put it all together.

You're forgetting one important thing; they're still the Lions. :banghead:

Very Arizona-esque.

Marinelli looks like he might have them on the right track. He at least had the guys buying into his system last season and thinking they could win every game. Martz has to make a more balanced offense, however. If Jones is back and healthy, there is no reason with that RB group to use a a near 70/30 in favor of passing system. Not to mention, its putting a lot of pressure on a pretty mediocre starting QB.

Yeah, well....at one point, the Browns were a great team.

At one point, the Lions were a playoff team.

Franchises eventually recover.

True. Each year it seems I pick the cards or lions as the up and coming team and each year they fall.

Whatever Kitna is smoking or drinking, he needs to give it the rest of the team. The Lions should improve this year due to their new WR, but the team will not win 10 games. I think the Lions could win 5-8 games if the line protects Kitna, the run game improves, and the defense is better.

Kitna was counting pre-season games and scrimmages in his prediction.

I can't stand Kitna ever since he ran his mouth after the Cowboys laid an egg against the Lions. His first pass, the first play, was picked off and taken to the house by Roy W. Oh how I hate stupid officiating. On that same play, T-New knocked the bejesus out of that Furrey clown who went on to defame the star. I hate nothing more than lousy teams that thump their chests and show disrespect to the opponent over a RARE VICTORY. Yeah, our linebackers sucked in the last 5 games, but who the hell is John Kitna to criticize an opponent?

err they made it as far as the NFC championship once, with the best running back of all time.

They won't be back to the playoffs for a long time. Most Lions fans would consider 7 wins a highly successful season.

So, if let's say Romo comes out and says the same thing, are we complaining, laughing, rolling our eyes? I don't know, if I was a starting QB for an NFL franchise, I sure wouldn't be saying, "Hell, I think we'll finish w/ about 5 wins, because we are the Lions."

The point being, don't you WANT your starting QB thinking positive? What's wrong w/ it? I commend Kitna for saying it, no matter how unrealistic it might be, there is still a chance and when your starting QB is thinking that way, it flows down through the team.

Exactly. Someone should have made furball pay for what he did.

When you play as pathetically as we did, you deserve embarassment like what Furrey did.

The Lions came into our stadium and made a mockery of us.
