ESPN's Mel Kiper said in a Wednesday conference call that USC OT Tyron Smith is one of the draft's hottest players leading up to April 28.
Specifically, Kiper called Smith's stock "red hot right now." The earliest we've seen Smith mocked is No. 9 to the Cowboys. Rotoworld's Chris Wesseling recently broached that Buffalo could consider Smith at No. 3, however, and the notion makes plenty of sense. The Bills have sore spots at both tackles. The most talented offensive tackle prospect in this draft class, Smith's most common comparison is D'Brickashaw Ferguson

The Cowboys reportedly have USC OT Tyron Smith sitting atop their draft board heading into the home stretch.
It strains credulity that the team's brass would be that transparent with their intentions. Even with the popular dot connecting of Smith to Dallas at No. 9, we would take this as much less than gospel truth. If the Cowboys are unable to trade down, though, Smith does make sense as RT Marc Colombo's successor. Apr 3, 10:15 PM

I hope someone snatches him up before us. I have no problems with him as a prospect, but just not at #9. Hes not enough of a sure thing, and drafting anybody to play RT at #9 with a right handed QB is an overdraft.

I know hes got the athleticism.

I just want to know if he is going to knock guys off the ball at this level and will he bring it every Sunday because I KNOW Carimi will.

:lmao2:

Tell me, who at #9 is a sure thing?

Can someone explain to me how someone "shoots up or down" draft boards? Like people in the NFL are calling guys like Kiper to tell them how players are shooting up or down their board?

The draft is like any other market. If there is a lot of hype surrounding someone than they will shoot up.

Look at Demarcus Ware. He kinda came out of nowhere at the last minute.

People just can't like this guy........1st was could he gain weight(yes), then was it could he move with the weight(yes), then the knee injury is gonna be a problem(no)

Now its can he play(yes) . If u don't like him fine just don't keep coming up with excuses for why u don't

I think 75% of us like him it's just that

A: Does he fit our style with his abilities (can he knock people of the ball in the run game)

B: Is a Right Tackle worth a top 10 pick (he better be Erik Williams)

Fairley, Dareus, Peterson, Prince, and Miller are all a lot better prospects than Smith. They all have the elite athleticism at their own positions like Smith, just with more proven on field performance. Now its debatable whether any of them will be there at 9, but if any one of them are there, theres no question they would be a better pick than Smith.

If a player shoots up or down a draft board, it probably indicates that the board was wrong in the beginning and is now being adjusted.
.
Bunting had Tyron Smith as the top OT back in 2010.
.
I think that guys like Kiper just throw out a "board" in Dec/Jan and then call Teams and other experts to get feedback on it. He will then adjust his board and repeat the process of getting feedback on it and adjust it again...etc...

I think a slow mahler RT is a thing in the past with how the DE/OLB is changing........speed and quickness is more important.

Add that with the fact that he can play LT........2 swing tackles is something to is very good with the way players constantly get injured

I definetely can buy that but I don't think that it's so important that you use the 9th pick on it.

Because this draft is so weak I can live with it but he better be a BA for us to take a RT @ 9. Im talkin a difference maker. The good news is he does have difference maker potential.

I'm actually coming around a bit on Smith. He's not my favourite tackle, but I can understand why he's the top ranked one. Put it this way, I wouldn't be upset anymore if we took him at 9.

Oh puhleeze. Ninth is the highest he'll go.

And if we were picking 15th thats probably still the highest he'd go :).

I'm a diehard Saints fan and I'm telling you this guy isn't really as good as advertisted. He's only being thought of so highly because he went to USC

haha wrong.

The guy is getting hyped because he played at a high level and he is a physical freak.

well a diehard Saints fan would not be all that smart anyway. Unless of course this DIE HARD saints fan started in 2006.
