the idea that guys who start sprinting and stopping on a dime after a layoff, and *not* pull a hamstring now and then, is just not connected to reality.
You would think that during the "layoff" they would be doing drills that involve sprinting...

Don't get me started, you.

Garrett actually had some things to say on the topic of Hargrove, character, and the team's diligence if anybody's interested. stash, to recap, he basically just said that you were wrong and the rest of us were right. :)

People get so hung up on Church's 40 time.

He has ran a 4.69 at the Combine and a 4.64 on his Pro Day. That is not that far off of Vaccaro who was the first safety chosen in the last draft. Church's other numbers including vertical, broad jump, bench press, short shuttle and 3cone drill are all as good as Vaccaro's. So I just laugh when they are so cautious about Church over 0.05 seconds in a 40 yard dash.

Now the things that stand out to me about Church is that he seems to diagnose plays well and plays with great physicality. I just don't know how good he will be since we only got to see him for two games last year where he was probably one of the better players on the field.

Anyhow, I'm rooting for the kid because he always seems to outperform everyone's expectations. The Cowboys FO must have seen something promising in him to sign him to the 4-year extension after his injury.

It's great to hear Matt Johnson was out there taking snaps and not being nicked up right now. I hope he can find some health as he has missed a good chunk of the last couple of seasons.

He is such a tease because his highlight reel from college is amazing and yet we never get to see him play.

Exactly how I feel. I think this kid will finally help solidify one of the safety spots. Now I am hopeful that Wilcox or Hamilton can be come solid guys as well. I actually really like both of them but I think Hamilton is probably the most ready out of the 2 to contribute. I honestly believe safety can become a strength if these guys develop. I am not that high on Johnson hope he plays well but I just don't see it. I like the 2 young guys we got this year over Johnson. Church 40 time is way overblown but that doesn't surprise me. I will say this it's good to hear that he is out there going 100% after that injury it just goes to show how hard he works and how confident he is and I for one like that in a safety. This guy is going to be a captain on this team.

It is impossible to tell what we have in Johnson so far other than a guy with durability and soft tissue issues.

What he does have is NFL measurables and a highlight reel where he looks like Superman out there albeit at a lower level of ball.

I am fairly confident Church will develop into a valuable starter.

I am fairly confident we'll turn one of Johnson, Wilcox or Hamilton into a good player but I'm just not sure it'll happen this year. I am happy to have Will Allen as a fallback option even if I'm not convinced he is much of a player. I am pretty sure he is going to be much better than Danny McCray.

If you haven't seen them, I'd recommend both the Church and the Johnson and Allen interviews up today at DC.com. It's ridiculous to base an assessment off of an interview, but, Johnson sure looks and sounds like a vet already to me. If the guy plays like the coaches think he's going to play, I think he's got a shot at being a huge surprise for us this year.

Church, too, has a great temperament. Man, I really like so many of the players on this team right now. There aren't guys on it I can point to and say I can't wait to see out of here. I honestly can't think of one off the top of my head.

I really really dislike Doug Free. This guy always seems to be running away from speaking to the media. Eventually you have to realize that you're the most controversial player on the roster right now and have to address it. I'm tired of reading year after year that he's very evasive with the media.

Or, maybe it's because the Cowboys have a rule against lineman doing interviews? Seriously people.

I don't think if I was an athlete that I would talk to the media either. Seems in today's world, all they want to do is create a "drama" story. All they want to talk to Free about is his contract and what he thinks about taking a paycut and does he think he should of had to do that. Try to see if he has issues with JJ or JG.

vs

Talking about has he improved and how he thinks the OL will fare this year.

Why does he owe you, the media, or anybody an interview? He's not stupid. He knows what the media does. They only want to interview him to try and get him to say something negative they can turn into a major story for the next news cycle. Not everyone is an attention hog wanting to put their business out their for the world to see. Some people are simply introverted and like to keep their business to themselves. Leon Lett was famous for this. Maybe Free is the same way. I wouldn't want to talk to the media either if I just went through a difficult situation and haven't played well recently. I would know exactly what would be written and I wouldn't want to give them any more ammunition or help them in any way. The only thing Free owes anyone is to try his best to regain his form and play better. That's all I care about, not whether he talks to the media or not.

There's no rule that prevents the linemen from speaking to the media.

As a position group, they CHOOSE not to speak to the media. You may have one or two occasionally interview, but as a whole, they prefer not to talk to the media.

Maybe fans want him to have an interview so he does say something stupid and they can have more reasons to dislike him:cool:

I love it. I love they won't tell them who is calling the plays. I love that they didn't know about romo for a month. Anything that pisses the media off I love.
