OTA Notes week 2

He only started last season because Ferguson was injured. He performed okay but nothing great. His last 4 starts only produced 10 catches for 110 yards. Not terrible but certainly nothing that would make most think he’s on course to be our starter.
He isn't a receiving TE and we know that. Still, he can't catch passes that aren't thrown his way. When you look how far down he is on the target list he is only going to catch so many passes.

Schoon was the #7 receiver on the Cowboys last year with 27-241. The Bengals had the #1 passing offense in the league last year. Their #7 receiver had 20-158.

They didn’t draft him in the second round if they didn’t believe he could develop into a solid receiver. Sam LaPorta was would have been our pick but he was taken. That proves a receiving TE was important to us. The Bengals have two outstanding starting WR’s they paid a lot of money to. Naturally their number 7 receiver isn’t going to produce much. Once we got past CeeDee we didn’t have much at receiver until we traded for Pickens. Schoon should have produced even more with the 6 starts he had. Doubt the Bengals 7th receiver got 6 starts last season.

If it was that important, they would have drafted on earlier or traded for one.
It was important but not as important as DT which is why we reached for Mazi. If we knew he was going to end up a dud we would have used that pick on LaPorta who was drafted 7 picks later. We might have drafted Kincade who went a pick before Mazi. The very next pick after LaPorta was Micheal Mayer. Luke Musgrave went 7 picks later so we were stuck with Scoonmaker.

The Bengals had the #1 passing offense in the league last year. Their #7 receiver had 20-158.
Tanner Hudson was their 7th receiver and had ZERO starts. Despite Schoon having 6 starts he only produced 7 more catches and 83 more yards than Hudson. Not sure why you made that comparison.

Erick All Jr.

#6 was Zack Moss 23-187
Erick All was targeted 22 times, while Schoon was targeted 36 times. The Bengles other receivers weren’t going to get targeted much with Chase on one side and Tee Higgins on the other.

If we lose Ferguson and the others don’t produce enough TE will be high on our list. Even Shultz wasn’t good enough for us to extend him a couple of years ago. We’re going to be looking for a great TE prospect.
We tagged Schultz and fergi stepped up.

We tagged Shultz after a 78 catch, 808 yard, 8 TD season. His numbers dropped the next season and we let him walk. Ferguson stepped up after Shultz left but he had a down season last year. Our longterm answer at TE isn’t on the team.

Exactly. They hedged their bets because they really didn't believe Schultz and weren't sure about fergi. After fergi showed a little more they walked away from.schultz...now probably similar situation. If schoon shows a little they will let fergi walk and resign Pickens and draft a TE in the 2 to 4th round as we always tend to do

You got it wrong. They allowed Shultz to walk before Ferguson did anything. Ferg only had 19 catches for under 200 yards when Shultz walked. Shultz had a down year so the Cowboys let him walk and took their chances with Ferg and Hendershot. TE was high our list in the draft and we took Schoon.

So we need an elite tight end, Pickens and lamb. Lol interesting
Pickens and Lamb are WRs and Pickens is on a one year deal. You obviously didn’t think about that. TE is important to your passing game. Just look at Kelce and Kittle. They’re big and can find seams in traffic and can move the chains. Plus they provide a security blanket for your QB. All the Cowboys championship teams had great TE’s.

Dallas goedert and his career high 800 yards is a great tight end? Tell me more

Where did I say a great TE is a must to win a championship? Philly was loaded everywhere. All they needed was a solid TE in Goedert. Look at the success KC has had with Kelce. If it wasn’t for him KC wouldn’t have had near the success they’ve had. Since trading Hill they’ve had issues at WR. SF has had a lot of success with Kittle. Go find a Cowboys team that won a SB that didn’t have a great TE. They provide a security blanket for your QB. Hopefully I was able to educate you.

You editing your post doesn't change anything bud. But I'm done with you. Another poster that thinks adding elite pass catchers will lead to postseason wins. Cute.
