OTA Notes week 2

There is a very big possibility the Cowboys let Ferg walk because of Schoon. There has already been talk about that from the FO.
Unless Ferguson continues to have injury issues and Schoon beats him out that won’t happen. Ferg will probably walk after his deal is up but unless Schoon takes hold of the position, TE will be high on our list in the draft. We need an elite TE. All our championship teams had one.

It would have been nice if Nick Harris had elaborated more on Dak Prescott's mobility. Is he running full speed out of the pocket on designed plays or scrambles? Or is his mobility being described as simply dropping back to pass without clear signs of difficulty?
Any of these reporters if still employed past 2 years is a shill. A minion who works for JJ.

It helps you identify who is out of shape and what rookies are not very intelligent and struggling with learning a new system.

However, that should have been known and researched prior to drafting the player.
Think of the combine and research as the initial interview.
You hire the person. Then 6 weeks later you find. If not before, they are not as good as their resume, or they are a slacker type.

This is not the same, but it a way it is. Before you,get to TC. You can “churn” the roster.

Schoon did nothing? Are you watching the games? He has started and played well. It's clear your expectations for him are far too high.
You’re not carefully reading my posts. I said he did practically nothing, referring to his rookie year. He only had 8 catches for 65 yards. That’s practically nothing, especially for a second round pick.

He was drafted to be a much better receiver than he’s been. Do you think he’ll see a second contract with the Cowboys?
He was? Based on what exactly. Because that's not what the Cowboys were saying when they took him.

I have no idea if he gets a 2nd deal or not. If this year is better than last year (which it should be) I'd he will likely get an offer unless it's a situation like Schultz a couple years ago.

He was hurt and not even supposed to be on the field. They thought it was a season ending injury. He fought through it and managed to play with the pain. There was never any plan for him to be involved in the passing game. They knew it would be at least a year to get him up to NFL speed in the passing game and with very little TC and struggling to even play in preseason there was really no chance of him contributing. We all know this. Not new news.

Reminder - In 23 games, Schoonmaker only caught 54 balls for 637 yards at Michigan.

Not worried about Ceedee, he’s an established player. It’s not like he’s battling for a job. Schoon on the other hand hasn’t lived up to his 2nd round draft status and isn’t a lock to make the team. Highly unlikely he sees a second contract.
Schoonmaker isn’t terrible. Definitely not an outright bust, just not even close to second round material.

That’s what happens when you go into a draft with the idea that you MUST draft a tight end, or any position, because you refuse to use free agency.

Look at the recent results when they’ve pulled that, yet they think they are outsmarting the dummies who overpay in free agency.

Which means nothing. Especially considering it was decades ago since their last championship.
It means a lot in todays game. Look at KC. A great receiving TE provides a security blanket for your QB. Kittle has made getting past SF difficult for us.

He’s not terrible but he hasn’t been great either. He wasn’t worth a 2nd round pick.

We do not use two TE's in the passing game. It really is not hard to understand. Take a look franchise history - most teams don't.

It is hard to do something, when no plays are designed for you. He is a back up TE1, and a blocking TE, and a 5th option on pass plays when he is on the field.

Do you think/expect Shooty or any OC to design plays for Schoon, when we have CD, Pickens, Ferguson, Tolbert and Blue out of the back field?

Barring injuries he will be lucky to get 25 targets this season.

Where did I say we did in the post you just quoted? I made no mention of it in that post.
My point is he can't do nothing about it. Our offense has not been designed that way. Most NFL teams do not feature a 2nd TE. I have only seen Belichick do it in NE and even that was for a short period of time.

So it is not really fair to evaluate Schoon, other than they Coaches feel he is 2nd to Ferguson.

OK hold on. A much better receiving TE??? Where did that come from? He wasn't a receiving TE in college and wasn't drafted to be one here. He was raw and wasn't expected to make any impact in the receiving game for a couple of years. If anything, he is ahead of schedule.

Schoon did nothing? Are you watching the games? He has started and played well. It's clear your expectations for him are far too high. Especially in the receiving game. He won't ever be a 60 or 70 catch a year guy because he is too far down the food chain. But you seem to think he is the next Kelce.

There is a very big possibility the Cowboys let Ferg walk because of Schoon. There has already been talk about that from the FO. Was he worth a very late 2nd round pick? Well this is year 3 so we will see. But he has been better than most who do nothing but dump on him. Especially considering his injury his rookie season.
Not because of Schoon, because they most likely will not be able to afford him. We can't pay everyone.

He can do something about it by by beating out Ferguson. He had an opportunity to do that his rookie year. Any drop he has whether it’s in OTA’s, training camp or games are going to limit his opportunities.

Ferguson is a legit top 10 TE. He has zero chance of taking his job from him.
