Our Achilles Heel

The Chiefs signed Gardner Minshew, a proven QB with 47 NFL starts, to back up Mahomes in case he went down. Even with Minshew, they didn’t make the playoffs when Mahomes was injured.

So who exactly did you want the Cowboys to sign as insurance for Dak? There wasn’t anyone available who was going to step in and lead this team to wins deep into the playoffs.

If Dak goes down, the Cowboys’ season is probably over anyway. At that point, take the higher draft pick next April and move on.
If Dak goes down, don't worry, JJ has a bright shiny uni hanging in a closet that's located in the owner's suite! LOL!!!!

With the vast improvements on the defensive side of the ball, I started thinking about the one weak link this season. IMO, it is the backup QB position. Sam "Boog" Howell is a bus driver at best, while Joe "Rocket Arm" Milton III has been a complete disaster. It would suck if this season is a bust, not because of the defense but because we didn't invest in a quality backup QB.
Yup. I've been thinking that myself since we've retooled the defense.
Dak has a streak of missing large parts of seasons the past 5 years. A solid backup QB is essential for insurance.

That would be our GM
Until that problem is fixed you are rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic

trade a 4th rounder for JJ McCarthy. I think this guy was overrated as a #1 pick, but vastly underrated for the total bust people are now claiming he is.

Plus maybe in 3 years time he could replace the Dakster

I couldn't have said it better! Now, I wonder if we will hit 40 years without a conference championship appearance. Unless someone not named Jones owns the team. I expect more of the same into perpetuity.

Agreed, and the backups here just don't inspire confidence.

But then again, Jerry has never:
  1. Drafted a QB in the 1st round since Aikman
  2. Valued the backup QB and it has cost us
I worry a lot about this season assuming the defense will at least be average, but that Dak is older and might miss significant time, esp if Tyler G continues to struggle.

Yep. My biggest concern as well since Dakster hadn’t had consecutive healthy seasons since 2016-17.

And weak depth at RB another concern with a starter with injury history

I’d never say never but it doesn’t look promising.
