Our backfield is overrated.

Oh my God dude...seriously.

Stop making every damn post about how Garrett is ruining this team. We get it you're not a fan, but this its just old how every post is something about how bad he is.
do you agree with the way the running game is handled? I'm not even talking about the ***** finesse running plays he calls. I'm talking about the distrubution of carries between the 3 backs.

No, but prior to this week, Marion Barber deserved the benefit of the doubt. But not any more. He is not producing, and he needs a few less carries per game.

I think Felix needs more carries, however I'm not ready to give Choice the majority of the load like many others on this board. I like him in the Razorback role, and a few other carries sprinkled in.

He's a good change of pace, but I dont think he should be the main one receiving carries.

I just dont think Barber has been a 100% since that 1st Giants game.

I'd bet that we find out at the end of the season that his leg has been in a bad condition all year long.

I mean seriously. If any of you have that Giants game DVR'd just go back and watch the difference. He makes some sick cuts in that game and just has a quicker burst.

Hes still a young guy too so it has to be that injury he suffered.

he wasn't ions better last year though

I don't like his running style at all, esp. now that defenders know that to take him down, all you have to do is go for his legs, which is very effective in limiting his runs

and Barber always trying to take the ball outside only compounds the suckiness

he needs to take a note from Choice, and just run it up the gut, then make his cuts at the 2nd level, just past the LOS

the days of him cutting it outside, stiff-arming the tackler that goes for his torso, for the big gain, are over, he just has no burst, and they go for his legs now

he could probably regain some of that burst by taking the shortest route possible to the hole

I wonder about this too. He did great the first two games this season, got injured, and has never been the same since. I just wish the coaching staff would realize this and start giving the carries to the guys behind him who are healthy enough to do the job.

Why not? Not trying to be argumentative but I want to know your reasoning. Like you said, for whatever reason Barber isn't getting it done. So it's going to come down to Jones and Choice get the running game going.

Besides Barber, Choice's the only one who has started games. He has proven he can handle the full load and he did well against top run defenses. And all this in December(colder weather). That alone would be a good reason to give him more carries then Felix.

Agreed. The lateral running with MBIII is mind boggling.

Get what you can north and south, and then do your thing. But whatever you do, protect the damn ball.

This is the problem, though. Two seasons in a row where Barber has been hurt to the degree it substantially affects his game.

That is a very bad sign for any RB. Especially one who made his name due to the uber physical nature of his running style.

Don't get your hopes up though about Choice or Felix getting more carries. Remember these are the same coaching staff that stuck with Julius Jones when all he was doing was running into his linemen and falling backwards all year.

No one finds a pile better than Julius Jones. That pile is heat and he's a heat seeking missile.

Umm, perhaps it was for a reason.

Barber wasnt nearly as good once he became a starter and got increased carries.

Most of you know I'm fairly rah-rah about the team, but I feel this is a gaping wound in our team that nobody is paying attention to.

Barber- He's lost his fire. When he got upended in the Giants game, that confirmed it for me that he's done. What happened to the Barber that NEVER got stopped by one person, especially a DB?

Felix- Who? Mr. 5 touches a game? Sorry. Guy might be a monster, but we'll never see enough to know.

Choice- Looks like he's our best back, and he's nothing special. Just a solid all-around back. He reminds me of Emmitt, just without the HoF part.

Opinions?

Edit: Might I add that I hope to all that is holy that I am wrong here.

Per Football Outsiders: Week 13

Least valuable running back:

1..Marion Barber [Dallas]

......................Total.....Rush......Rec
Rush.....Rec......DYAR.....DYAR....DYAR

..36.......7........-42........-4........-38

The Cowboys chose to pay Marion Barber big bucks after three seasons as a part-time back behind Julius Jones. Up to that point in his career, Barber was averaging 4.54 yards per carry, with a touchdown once every 16.4 carries and a fumble once every 79.5 carries. Since then, he's been a totally different player. He's got 390 carries now over the past two seasons, a total that approaches the 477 carries he had over the first three years of his career. His average yards per carry are down to 3.98; he's scoring touchdowns once every 35.5 carries, and he's fumbling once every 43.3 attempts. If you extrapolate his numbers in each role to a 16-game season, he went from averaging 771 yards and 10 touchdowns as a part-time back to 956 yards and seven touchdowns as the featured back. Everyone loves his style of running, but Barber has been a disappointment for the Cowboys since he put pen to paper.

They aren't overrated, they are under utilized.

How many plays have you seen where Felix is on the field and the play goes to him? I get it but if I do then obviously the opposing defense does also. I would love to see some plays where we use him as a decoy and screen over to Miles or something.

Choice needs to be our starter and get the bulk of early down carries to setup a shorter yardage situation in say 3rd downs.

Barber is a closer and a goal line back/short yardage. I've seen him try to break to many to the outside this year and it just doesnt work for him. If he is still hurting then thats even more reason to give Choice the bulk of the carries, we all know he can handle it.

Barber needs a Greg Ellis type of role

get the 1st series or 2 as a starter, and then another back takes his place

then on 3rd downs (late 2nd half) insert Barber for a majority of the carries

I start Felix - I think the reason he get hurt is that he is under used
a guy that can take the distance on any touch

Choice as the back up

MBIII - ten yard line an closer

an trade his him this of season for a 2 or 3 round pick -

draft Toby Gerhart a perfect short yardage guy - plus he might even be better than Choice
I know he looks faster

I agree. Quad injuries will stick with you for a long long time, kinda like an ankle sprain or groin.

There is no way he has lost that much jump in his step since the beginning of the year. Just no way.

Dude your sig is way over the top. Barber is injured not heartless. In fact it's the opposite, he should not have been playing at all till he fully recovered...

Don't get my wrong. I want to see more Felix Jones. I want to see him get a Julius Jones amount of PT in a game.

But with that said.

Barber is one of the few guys on this team capable of imposing their will on a defense.
