With Alex Smith getting that kind of money, when we resign Martin, Lawrence, Irving?, Zeke and Dak, our cap room will be eliminated.

Did you forget that was a Dan Snyder move. Doesn't mean the rest of the league will pull stupid money stunts. See, we're not the only fan base that put's up with an owner that is bizarre.

It wasn't stupid money.

Smith got basically 2015 top of the QB market money. The cap is up 35MM since then.

What does this even mean.

What will the cap be in 3 years when we need to update Dak and Zeke? Will we even want to pay Zeke? Who else will be on the roster? What other deals will we have signed?

This is meaningless.

Just based on the things you say it appears that you have no idea what salary cap means. I am saying if we resign all of those guys it is going to eat up a huge portion of our cap. What about that do you not understand? It's really not a difficult concept.

Running backs are a dime a dozen after his fifth year you have to let him walk.

That’s not a 100 percent thing. Zeke May be a hallof famer. You don’t let a hall of famer walk after 5 years
If Zeke gets to the end of his contact with no more off the field issues then resign him. I doubt that happens. How many guys can stay out of the spotlight off the field once they started?

Dez is probably best at turning his life around but even he had issues his first 3 years.

There was even a bodyguard attached to PAC Man and he still got in trouble during the season.

Von Miller had just as much, if not more, issues than Zeke his first couple years in the league and now he is one of the faces of the NFL.

Yes Zeke has some maturing to do for sure but most of his apparent transgressions are minor and don’t command NFL punishment.

The biggest issue was a dysfunctional relationship with a woman that existed prior to being drafted that hit its boiling point a few months after he was drafted. He tried to move on from the issue to the extent of getting a restraining order before his rookie season started.

That's what Stephen is working on.

I know. But half the people here seem to think we can go pay whoever we want and pay the guys I just mentioned and piss off cap room on Dez and Witten and still have tons of cap room available. It's just not realistic.

True, Zeke has great talent and is certainly the most talented offensive player we have. But his off field behavior thus far has been a real problem. Hopefully he’s grown up and can stay committed to being a man instead of a sophomore in high school.

It’s a good thing we don’t have to make a decision about Zeke’s next contract for another 2 years. Because before we make a long term commitment to him, we better know more about his commitment and maturity.

It's nice to have that 2 years to see how he acts.

Martin's signing will lower our cap hit for him. In two years when we are signing it her guys, we will have deals coming off the books like Crawford, Dez, Witten, etc. Every team currently has 3-5 big deals, another 5-6 mid size deals and a lot of minimum deals. Just a matter of balancing them.

I would say that he does understand and you're jamming everything into the present. Martin and Irving don't have to be resigned until 2019 season. Dak and Zeke don't have to be resigned until the 2020 season (if they are signed). There could be early extensions, but those don't usually have massive upfront cap hits.

Here are the projected salary cap $'s going forward (mind that this years was $167m)
2018 - $178m
2019 - $190m
2020 - $200m

So the cap is projected to go up over $30m by the time we have to (maybe) sign Dak and Zeke. Romo and Dez will have dropped off by then. There is a ton of room.

Still can't believe fans get caught up with what can be done and what cannot with the salary cap. Yes, Washington gave Smith a ton of money including supposed 70 million in guarantees but if you have watched the NFL over the years those guarantees have a clause in every contract that allows a team to lessen those guarantees for one reason or another. Quarterbacks are always going to paid more money than any other position.

I agree DLaw, Martin and possibly Hitchens are going to cost but it is NEVER the size of the contract, it is about the cap number in the first 3 or 4 years and how it is structured. Most of the contract salary will be on the final two or three years and more than likely not guaranteed. Don't forget the NFLPA-NFL agreement runs out in 3 years and so another change will be in order.

Dak and Zeke's contracts will be in line with their positions as always and they also will be structured where the cap number is low for at least the first three years.

It is supposed to be eliminated...... they should try to spend to the limit every year
