take a look at this.

Newman, Terence-Drafted in the first round (5th overall)
Jenkins, Mike-Drafted in the first round (25th overall)
Olshansky, Igor-Drafted in the second-round (35th overall) by San Diego
Spears, Marcus-Drafted in the first round (20th overall)
Brooking, Keith-Drafted in the first round (12th overall) by Atlanta
Carpenter, Bobby-Drafted in the first round (18th overall)
Spencer, Anthony-Drafted in the first-round (26th overall)
Ware, DeMarcus-Drafted in the first round (11th overall)
Hamlin, Ken-Drafted in the second round (42nd overall) by Seattle.

we have 9 guys on defense that were drafted in the first or second round, 7 in the first and 2 in the second. all but one is a starter.

now I'm not blaming the loss on this D but this group should be one of the most dominate defenses ever based on draft pedgree alone and arguably our best player is a small NT taken in the 7th round!

i think you would be hard pressed to root back through the decades and find this many first rounders on a roster that wasn't one of the greats

Not this again.

Every other team gets first and second round picks, too. And guess what, they are all either on offense or defense.

Think about it.

Besides, draft position doesn't mean anything once you're in the league. Would having 11 Bobby Carpenters make us the '85 Bears?

Wouldn't a lot of defenses have seven guys drafted in the first round?

So you're comfortable saying that "this group should be one of the most dominate defenses ever based on draft pedgree alone" but you don't know if there's really anything unusual about their "draft pedigree"?

Looking at a few teams at random: Seattle has 11 guys on defense from the first two rounds of the draft. Tampa Bay has only 8, but they have 3 other 3rd-rounders. Kansas City has 7. It's surprisingly difficult to get this information from most teams' websites.

The Chargers also have seven guys on defense who were drafted in the first round. Last year's Ravens did, too. (As did the Ravens in 2005.)

It's difficult to get the number for every team to see just how common it is, but with at least three examples in just the past two years, it's definitely not unique.

Yet, a newly formed, piece-mailed 3-4 defense in Denver, filled with aging vets and has beens showed more innovation with their blitzes, and more heart than our defense.

Chew on that one.

I just picked two teams that I knew had used a lot of No. 1 picks on defense. I'll check some "bad" defenses, too.

The worst part is that we supposedly have one of the best Defensive Coordinators in the business.

And just because those guys were drafted in the 1st Round, doesn't dictate how good of a Pro they are going to be.

It's all about Structure, Discipline, Leadership and Chemistry.

I find it weird that there'll be a post disparaging the defense after their play in the last couple of weeks.

no need adam i digressed. i just felt like we should have a great D with all picks plus the pedigree of FA's. but i guess its not that uncommon

now that im thinking about it i think washington prolly has about the same amount

Yeah, we have 7 first rounders, and 2 second rounders. And Renaldo Wynn doesn't even dress for games - think how amazing our defense must be!

I think Ratliff is probably your second best player on defense, and London Fletcher is our best player. Shows how much draft position is worth.

Noticed you've said (posted)this twice so in Wade's limited defense (sic) he hasn't been doing the exotic like safety blitz and things of that nature because he's had to simplify it for some players. *bangs head on desk*

Can we have London Fletcher? Trade you Kitna and Ken Hamlin straight up. :D

For who? Brooking? Because he sure can't play Bradie's strong side spot and Bradie's holding his own. And the way Brooking has been playing, also with the excitement which I think would prove along the season to be infectious, I wouldn't trade him for anyone now. Except Patrick Willis:D
