That's an incredible success rate.

The drafting in the 2nd and 3rd rounds have been stellar too.

2010: Sean Lee
2011: Bruce Carter, Demarco Murray
2012: Tyrone Crawford
2013: Gavin Escobar, Terrance Williams, JJ Wilcox
2014: Demarcus Lawrence
2015: Randy Gregory, Chaz Green
2016: Jaylon Smith, Maliek Collins

8 out of the 12 currently start or were starters.
Who on this list is stellar ?

Yes, Risen Star is an expert on the NFL draft. I mean, he's the one who significantly downgraded our draft just because we drafted Dak.

As if we're not talking to a guy who thinks the Cowboys have a good draft every year.

Shall we check the record on that? Spare me. Continue being player sexual.

LOL........so what if they are starters? Bad starters?

Not impressed what so ever with our 2nd and 3rd round drafting.

Murray was a 3rd round pick. I am pretty sure Crawford was too.

For those curious about Risen's draft prowess, here's the thread I mentioned:

http://cowboyszone.com/threads/my-nfc-east-draft-grades.348602/

And Risen's brilliant defense of his "C" grade for the Cowboys: "The grade suffers here because of QB. The Cowboys chose not to go after a legit franchise prospect and instead take a waste of space in round 4. Not only is the pick bad but the time that will be wasted on a player who will never be the pocket passer you need is the worst aspect of it. Do they bypass future QB prospects because they already have their guy? Awful."

I'd say Murray and Lee have been quite stellar. Also, the poster's use of stellar" was obviously describing the Cowboys overall success rate of finding starters in the second and third rounds as compared to the league average.

Yeah the success indicates we may be close to a special run for a few seasons.

We need Randy Gregory and Jaylon Smith and we will be on the brink of something special.

If Jaylon can recover and Gregory put down the pot, this team will be smoking.

Too soon?

Do you guys realize how hard it is to find starters in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, or are you guys just being ignorant on purpose?

It's not that. It's that we PURPOSELY gamble on guys who are injured or who have issues, robbing us of at least one year of productivity and putting us in the mode of "hoping" our picks work out.
Lee, Durant, Smith, Gregory.

I think fans are just tired of the gambles. Pick a solid player, play him in his first year, eliminate the obvious "guess" picks who either have character question marks, drug issues or injuries.

If you're going to take that approach, do it in the later rounds.

The narrative is that Jerry does what he wants and doesn't listen to people, and that just plain isn't true. All indications are that Jerry leans heavily on feedback and collaboration with scouting and coaching, even if the final decision rests at his own desk. The important change is that this is the best feedback he's received since around 1989-1992 for any stretch.

I don't fault people for being dissatisfied with the 2nd round drafting. 3rd round drafting has been overlooked though. Murray, TWill, Wilcox, Collins, Green, and Crawford, who is still a solid player even though he's overpayed.

Not sure why, but I thought this was going to be the link to the thread where he wanted to draft Chance Warmack #1 overall.

http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2015/2/20/8072877/what-the-statistics-tell-us-about-the-draft-by-round

From 2010-2016, we drafted 12 players in the 2nd and 3rd round. I even bolded it since some of you had trouble catching that in my initial post. You're welcome.

8 of those 12 are currently starters, or were starters here in Dallas. (Lee, Carter, Murray, Crawford, T-Will, Wilcox, Lawrence, Collins)

8 out of 12 gives us a 66.7% success rate at finding starters. But if you want to nitpick and say Carter didn't start every game and Wilcox is only a part time player now, then fine, 6 out of 12. That's still a 50% success rate, which can potentially go up to 9/12 depending on Green, Smith, and Gregory.

Looking at the metrics above and comparing it to our success rate, yeah...... I'd say we've done a stellar job in those two rounds.

Wasn't in agreement with your word choice of 'stellar' up above, but this is a pretty good backup of your argument.

I hope it gets addressed like it deserves and people don't just dismiss it or slink away.

As excited as we are about this past draft, the excitement will shoot into another stratosphere if Jaylon recovers and Tapper becomes at least another Jack Crawford.

Do we know anything about Kavon Frazier's development? It also seems the team likes Darius Jackson. What if Rico Gathers becomes anything? Its crazy to think we have a chance at hitting on all 8 draft picks.

Saw this stat on one of the NFL shows yesterday. 4 of the 7 players have already made the probowl, 3 soon will. A truly impressive job by Jerry, Will McClay and co.

It must be Jerruh's grandkid's presence in the war room. Ever since I've started seeing that little kid in there it's been lights out.

2010 Dez Bryant (made pro bowl)
2011 Tyron Smith (made pro bowl)

2012 Morris Claiborne
2013 Travis Frederick (made pro bowl)
2014 Zack Martin (made pro bowl)

2015 Byron Jones
2016 Ezekiel Elliott

Every one of them (except maybe B. Jones) has had at least one All Pro caliber season in their careers (I'm including Mo and Zeke for this year).
