I think this is why they are going to try to give Johnson more time with the starters this week. To see if he really can get the job done. I would think that if they decide that he can't they would likely go after Simms and maybe try to cut Johnson and then try to resign him after the first game. (if he would be willing) That would give Simms time to get comfortable with the offense.
I know a bunch on here don't like Simms but he is a competitor with a good arm and I think he could get the job done for a few games with our offense. Without Romo we won't make it anywhere in postseason anyway so it just has to be someone to hold down the fort for a few games.
Indy has had Sorgi as the backup for how many years now? He is not taking them anywhere but there is no panic for a star backup in Indy is there? Brady's backup is nothing special. How many really are?
Volek did a good job for SanDiego last year. He would have been a nice pickup last year - I would have been all for that.
Culpeper is really bad but Leftwich would have been better than Johnson. McCown would not be bad either. Bartel should not even hold a practice squad place. There has got to be someone on the street better than him!
