Our running game

A quick thought I had on our plans for incorporating more of a running attack this year. I always thought our running game was quite good last year but all this talk about being better made me take a closer look.

2008 yards per attempt

Dallas (Barber, Jones, Choice) 5.9
NYG (Jacobs, Ward, Bradshaw) 5.3
Atlanta (Turner, Norwood, Snelling) 4.1
Minnesota (Peterson, Taylor) 4.4

The other teams were just my random picks from what ESPN says are the good NFC running teams. It seems to me when we ran last year we were good enough. So if we really will be better this year, would that not make us the best?

I would guess tHose numbers are skewed. Did you take our 3 backs ypc, add them up and divide by 3? If so, that's not a good indication, a more accurate indication is our ypc for the year, I bet that's not 5.9.

Yeah not sure where those stats came from but they are not correct.

Barber 238 885
Choice 92 472
Jones 30 266
360 1623 4.51

4.51 is better than I expected to see, not bad.

If that average were true Tony wouldn't have to throw a pass:D

My comparison is yards per carry for a group. Barber 3.7, Jones 8.9 and Choice 5.1. Since the comparison is using the same math for each group the numbers are not skewed.

LOL, Well if it works like that then, why even bother with those guys since we could use RW11 and Crayton as RB's instead and average 12.0.

RW11 1 13 13.0

Crayton 1 11 11.0

Dallas ranking 25th in rushing attemps is the stat that jumps out at me as well as 21st in team rushing yards per game. I hope to see that changed this season.

So instead of having a positive thread about this years running game, after all I did ask a question in the original post, we'll just have more infighting. Good deal

As we have tried to explain to you, your math is not correct. You can't just add up their averages like you did, it doesn't work that way. So how is it possible to answer your question, when it's based off incorrect math?

I have high hopes for this year’s running game. I think we have an abundance of talent at the position and would like to see the running game become a bigger factor in the offense.

exactly. that skews the numbers......

I thought the OP calculated yards per ATTEMPT.

Seems like everyone after him jumped down his throat for yards per CARRY.

Maybe his math isn't wrong...

Carry on.

If these rankings overall are true about our running game, then a 5.9 avg. is highly unlikely. Just wouldn't add up. But I'm with everyone hoping our high talented run-game is successful.

you would be wrong. mathematically, statistically and every other way.

he wasn't fighting. he was just pointing out a flaw in your original logic. based on the average you had in your original post (5.9). then the total carries for the three of them was 360, that would equate to 2124 yards, but the actual yards was 1623 a difference of 501 yards. where did those yards go? do you understand now?

As I pointed out when you rank 21st in yards per game in rushing that is a problem as well as being 25th in attemps. I hope to see both numbers increase this year.

What are yards per attempt when discussing rushing? How do you attempt to rush and fail?
